****Official **** You Mike Mayock Thread**** (OP UPDATED)

http://m.nfl.com/news/0ap1000000140130/

The Kansas City Chiefs need a quarterback, but there aren't any this season that look like a top-ten talent, much less a No. 1 overall pick.

The way Mike Mayock sees it, the Chiefs should be looking to the offensive line for their first overall pick. And there are only four players worth the No. 1 overall pick in this draft for Kansas City: Alabama guard Chance Warmack, UNC guard Jonathan Cooper, Texas A&M tackle Luke Joekel, or Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher.

Mayock said on a conference call Monday that some people will say he's crazy to potentially take a guard at No. 1 overall, but Mayock says Warmack is the best player in this draft. So he doesn't see it as crazy at all.

In the end, Mayock believes the pick could come down to Joekel or Warmack. This is a draft where the top-shelf players don't stand apart too much, and there may not be a huge difference between picks 5 and 25. That makes it a tricky spot for the Chiefs.

Don't be surprised if Kansas City builds from the inside out, and finds their quarterback of the future later.

He gives the Chiefs 4 options at #1 and they're all offensive lineman? Go **** yourself bro

@Jacobs71: Here is what Mayock said on #Chiefs pick in full "Well, part of it depends on what they're going to do with free agency and Branden Albert."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think the answer to that, obviously, is going to give you the answer. Sitting where they are, let's face it, they need a QB."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"We don't know that there are a lot of people who think Geno Smith is in that ballpark."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I don't, but there are a lot of people that think he should be considered."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"When you look at what they're going to do, what are they going to do with Dwayne Bowe?"

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" Whoever the quarterback is, they need a wide receiver. And I think John Dorsey has to be thinking what is the big picture here?"

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I've got one, and I've got 34. What is the best combination of getting the most value out of that?"

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"And I think that offensive lineman at 1 is the most solid guy they can go with."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I don't care whether it's Warmack or Joeckel. People will tell me I'm crazy that a guard can't go No. 1."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think he's the best player in the draft, so I would argue that."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" But either way, I think they've got to get an offensive lineman and come back at 33 and prepare to go with a QB or WR."

@Jacobs71: When I asked Mayock about who fits Reid's system at QB: " I think Matt Barkley makes a lot of sense."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" He's a guy as a junior at USC looked so much different than he did this year."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"With Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson, I think all three of those guys you have to go back and watch junior tape. "

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" So I think Barkley fits what he does. I think Ryan Nassib fits what he does."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson both can fit what he does."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"So of those, that group of guys of the top seven, eight quarterbacks, I think those are the guys that did it most efficiently."

Dude, there is talent on this team and Reid is a good coach.

We're probably going to be a winning program again no matter what QB we take.

I'm far too dumb to not go gaga over that, even if the QB is a douche.

Props to any of you guys who are MU, Royals and Chiefs fans.

If I didn't have KU or the Cards, I don't know how they do it.
I guess I've always held that part of the pride of being a fan is staying behind a team even if they never improve. It's just your team. And if I did give on one my teams, and they turned it around, I'd feel weird about trying to come back, kind of like not talking to a relative for 20 years, but as soon as you hear they're on their death bed, trying to get back in their lives for the inheritance.

Anyway, I also think it's stupid for the last straw to be not taking a player I wanted in the draft. I think Hunt has already shown he wants to change the losing culture, drafting an o lineman isn't going to send me back to the nothing has changed Forrest.

If this upcoming draft smells like 2009 all over again, I don't want to waste the energy.

I'll still post here from time to time and watch a couple games a year, but that's it.

I won't closely follow the team like I have for 20 years and spend thousands on stuff that has to do with it.

You and I have had our battles on here, but you're relatively new to CP. Hell, I've only been here since 09. But being a fan my whole life, which isn't that long, (some here have been fans for longer than I've been alive) and seeing the Chiefs do basically the same shit over and over, then when they are in a position to do what we've debated and grinded on and on about on CP, only for them to not do it, would be pretty devastating.

It's childish and being a shitty fan, etc. I know, but I just don't think I'd have it in me and I give a shitton of mad props to guys who've gone thru it as long as some here have.
If we don't draft a QB at 1 or 34, then leave the door open, because I'm walking out with you.

I think it's reeruned to think a draft pick means nothing has changed. This place was thrilled with Reid and Dorsey, but an unpopular pick and they're dead to you? I remember the old days when even coaches we didn't like got one season.

I have an 8 year old that is currently on the fence to be a chiefs or 49ers fan...

Yes I can.

Football would go to the back burner.

Far more important things...

Then props to you.

But continually getting kicked in the face over and over, even dogs will fight back. Well, I can't fight back, but I can quit watching.

And it's not even a player I like. It's a position thing. All we've ever heard as a fan is that "we aren't in a position, too risky, no need for a QB now". Then this year only to have it be put back into a spot of that by their own choosing having to potentially trade up?

Sorry, not for me. Question my fandom if you want, but I've been a STL Cardinal fan longer and they've always treated the fans great.

And yeah, Clark did a whole lotta good this offseason. But there was alot of damage done over the past four years, and I just can't let him play the "i didn't knwo about it" card to it's fullest extent.

So unless they show me they are serious about it, I'm going to keep some distance.

What you don't seem to feel, is that this pick isn't a single pick in a vacuum. For me and it seems like alot of people, this shit has been boiling for years and years.

After going through what this fan base has over the last ...well...forever...it shouldn't take anyone here more than a first draft/offseason to see the intent and the inherent intelligence (or lack therof) of the front office.

I'm not gonna go through another "we got our Tom Brady AND our own Richard Seymour in the same offseason" start again.

I'll wait till a new movie starts to play before I buy another ticket because I've already seen this sad shitty movie too many times .
