Preseason Game #4 Evaluations
I'll share mine:
- The first string defense is vastly improved. I'm calling a top 15 defense this year. Pretty good pressure, and best of all, good tackling. - Even though Savage had the amazing effort on the long run, I'd still take Jackie Battle over him. He's consistently stronger as a runner and rarely goes down on the first contact. - Great block by Mark Bradley on Savage's long run. Wow. - Early in the game, the O-line did well on run blocking. Obviously pass protection is still the issue, as Brodie took a couple of hits that he just can't take. - Impressed by Succop in coming back off the bad game he had last week. He's got the mentality to kick in the league. When's the last time a Mr. Irrelevant was a starter in his rookie season? - Sean Ryan had the job won early and then had the holding call that negated the TD. Still, I think he's clearly the guy now. Cottam might not even make the team. - DaJuan Morgan might have won a starting job last night. That was an amazing performance. My starting defense right now is Jackson, Edwards, and Dorsey (although I'd field trade offers for Dorsey and look to put Magee in there.) The starting LB's should be Vrabel, Hali, D.Johnson, and Mays. The starting CB's should be Flowers and Carr, and my starting safeties would be Morgan and Page. I don't even know if Brown makes the team. - Offensively, my RB's are LJ, Charles, and Battle. I think Engram's a reliable receiver, but I'd love to see Lawrence get in there too. Anyways, be curious to see your evaluations of last night. |

Morgan has shown what he is capable of. Honestly, I'd rather give the kid the chance than to rely on McGraw and Brown. How can we expect him to learn and grow if he's not going to be on the field?
Practice and game environment are two different scenerios. Succop is a great pick. That's what a 7th rounders is for, you should be picking kickers or punters in that area, (FB's and some depth TE's/LB's/Special Team players). If they bombed, no big deal, cut him, and move on.

The first string defense should look good when the other 4 win team sits its starting QB and HB.
