Like said above, it's just the deadline. It's just another way to help teams, really.

By slapping the option on, they essentially take said player away from the FA pool next year, but they also have until next March to decide if they were wrong or not. The player benefits too because if he gets hurt between now and then in a serious form, they still get the one year deal.

Hmm...I mean that makes this season so huge for Fisher, right? If we dont restructure him to a longer deal , and he ends up having a horrible season or something, would we realistically cut him?

Is the deadline to restructure a deal with him prior to the 1st game of the regular season?

Dorsey has already indicated that he's working on an extension with Fisher so I think it's highly unlikely that it doesn't happen.

We watched them do that with Houston and he legitimately raped us (blah blah Houston bet on himself, **** you). I'd rather them get out ahead of this one.

We knew coming out that he had great upside but would likely need time to develop. Well, he's gone from complete ass, to just bad, to hardly noticeable, to pretty ****ing good. Given the fact that he's still very young and injury concerns appear to be a thing of the past, get him signed long-term ASAP before he prices himself out of our pocketbooks.

Chances are he'll sign to something that we look at initially as a bit high, but in 2-3 years will look like bargain with contract inflation.
