If he thinks that giving Alex Smith $18-20M a season is going to fetch him anymore of a return than he's already received, he needs to be shown the door. I get what you're saying, and I agree - I'm concerned as well that he can't walk away and will make a bad decision trying to prove the R2's were worth it - I guess we'll know soon enough if we have a guy that will do what's right, or just more of what we're used to in KC. |

No they sure aren't but you can't hit a home run if you aren't looking for your pitch to hit over the fences either.

Kaepernick still can't really read defenses past a first look and just got 100+ million. That follows Cutler (30 years old), who chokes like a dog with chicken bones, getting 100+ million and Romo (33 years old), who's a better version of Cutler, also getting 100+ million. The financial guideposts are now there, established for veterans and developing QBs alike. I don't know what Smith is looking for, and I don't know if he'll settle for less than he's worth, but the general market for QBs just got bumped up. |

And personally, I don't think that Alex is in this "market" that supposedly Stafford, Ryan, Flacco and Romo set. 3 of those guys have to score damn near 30 points each week to have a chance to win, meanwhile, Alex has a career year and still can't come close to their benchmarks. |

Would you be singing the same tune of Smith goes on to win elsewhere and our 1st round "franchise QB ray of hope" turns out to be a dud, forcing us to start over again?

Why don't you ask me how I'll feel if I win the lottery, get struck by lightning and get to titty**** Kate Upton all in the same day? No one wanted Alex Smith besides KC, but now all of a sudden teams are going to line up to pay him $18M if we don't? |

Your best chance to win multiple SBs is with a first round QB. Always has, always will be.

Look around the league at the guys who have been drafted and paid big money by their own teams. As much as we all want Aaron Rodgers, it's a more likely scenario the "ceiling" guy you get for your draft is going to be a Matt Ryan type player. Now, that's not a bad thing at all, but I think the "1st round QB" mantra around here has become its own animal. |

With any of these Qb's, paired with the way the league is and the money available, all that really matters is how soon you can get out of said deal.
The Cutler deal, which is lauded as being terrible, is one they can get out of in 3 years IIRC. |

No, it doesn't, and I'm not getting caught up in that nonsense. It's been so thorougly debunked that you have to have a single digit I.Q. to still be bitching about that.

AFCN? All set. AFCS? Houston just let their Alex Smith walk, everyone else? Set. AFCW? NFCE? Nope. NFCN? Nope. NFCS? Nope. Tampa just signed McCown. NFCW? Nope. Rams appear committed to Bradford, Arizona is paying Palmer $8M for similar production. So again, who is going to pay Alex Smith $18M? |

The Bengals are set? Dunno. Titans are set? Doubtful. Jets are already apparently doubtful with Geno as they brought in Vick who's been very vocal about starting etc. I don't necessarily think the guy is worth 18 million, but I'm also not going to say in a certain system with the right things around him he isn't. |
