Dyson DC41 Animal Vacuum

Been thinking about buying a new vacuum that picks up pet hair. Kitties are shedding everywhere. I'm checking out the Dyson DC41 Bagless Animal model. It sells anywhere from $500 to $650 depending on the seller. Anybody have experience with Dyson, and are they worth the extra money? You can buy a Hoover or Bissel for around $300 to $400. Thoughts?

That would be Simplicity. They also sell them under the Riccar brand. Made in St. James, MO.

Meh. Bet it doesnt work any better than my DC17 and it only has a 2 year warranty. The cheapest Dysons come with 5 year warranties.

At $99 a pop, how many can you buy before you can buy a Dyson?

3. Mine was $300. I'd still rather have a $300 vacuum that will last at least 5 years than a $100 vacuum that will only last at least 2. Theirs is a "limited warranty" too, Dyson's will cover any and everything that could possibly happen to it. My mom's dog chewed up the hose on her's and they overnighted her a replacement at no charge.

I'm referring to the sucker who bought it new.

Why are they suckers for buying a great, dependable vacuum with a long warranty?

Because they pay six times the price of a comparable vacuum because they are suckers for good marketing.

It picks up dirt. But, it's got this cool ball thing instead of wheels!

Looking at Consumer Reports' rankings the Dyson Animal is middle of the road in regards to performance. There are much better/cheaper options. CR purchased 129 vacuums off the shelf and put them through some rigorous tests.

I seem to remember a Bissel having the best reviews for animal hair when my wife purchased one a few years ago.

Too bad the mother ****er sits in the closet while I grab my wet/dry vac.

Seriously, a cheap shop vac with a Porter Cable tool brush attachment does far better than any home vacuum I have ever seen.

As far as pet hair, we have a Lab that's an indoor dog and a St. Bernard that spends a couple of hours most evenings and all night on any stormy nights (big assed baby) in the house.....this does a better job than my shop vac for pet hair, but in fairness I only have a cheap brush attachment for the shop-vac.
