Bortles (#3) will earn more than Robinson (#2)
Taxes affect NFL players, too. Because of differences between state income taxes, this year's third pick in the NFL draft is going to make more money after taxes than the second pick, even though the NFL employs a system that determines what each draftee will earn based on his selection order. Since Missouri has 5 pro teams and since 2 of them reside in our back yard, is taxation going to become a competitive disadvantage for our teams in the future? (Is it already happening?) It's hard to offer the quality-of-life to a young athlete like he'll get in Texas or Florida already. Making it more expensive only adds to our problems. |

I was getting an autograph from Dan Saleaumua and he said it was a huge factor for him.
Apparently Seattle offered the same money as KC but there was no state tax in Seattle...

It's not a big deal for me, nor is the KCMO earnings tax of 1%. But if I was an athlete, those numbers suddenly become very large. And since they're indifferent to where they play (unlike me, who has family here), they're far more likely to seek out these tax havens. Especially if they're in warm weather states.

Missouri has an entertainer's tax, and so whenever teams play in KC (chiefs and whoever they play, royals and whoever they play, etc) they basically have to pay quite a bit of income tax to the state based on what they are getting paid for that game. Same way with musicians and other performers.
2% http://dor.mo.gov/faq/business/nonresident.php Difference I guess would be our guys play half their games here, while others may play 1/16th, 10/162nds, etc.

Plus Bortles is right next to the ocean and beaches. Robinson is close to Six Flags.
I believe Arizona doesn't have a state tax either. |

That's just it: those states already have an inherent advantage over ours. Now you add in tax savings on top? LeBron could sit on South Beach during the winter or he could live up in that frigid dump Cleveland, paying more in taxes. GEE! WHAT SHOULD HE DO?

Every team that plays a game in Missouri their athletes are taxed. Thus like this weekend every Yankee player is getting taxed. Missouri also has an entertainer/sports tax in place as well.

Well sure, just like Robinson getting drafted by the Rams. Your first location you are stuck. But at that first free agency year (the age athletes hit their prime) these guys have EVERY incentive to high-tail it out of states that are boring and high tax. I can't help but wonder if this is already affecting our teams.
