-- Do we owe Perkins Bakery & Cafe a little discussion?

Fine baked goods, great Denver Omeletts? Sourdough country-club sandwich?

Any of you KC folks still visit here? What do you procure at Perkins and why?

Do you only go for the free toy chest up front?

Snicker-doodle cookies? Good baked goods there (I seem to recall)

Whatcha' got?!

Yes we do.

I was going to Perkins before there was Pipins that later become Tippens before they got 86'ed. Sadly Perkins is in some problems and shut down a lot of locations here.

Perkins used to do this cheeseburger, fries, and a shake special that I would always get.

It was freakin great. No, the burger wasn't the best thing I ever had, but for a chain restaurant, it was pretty great. At least they used real ground beef unlike some other places I've been to (Denny's, Village Inn). Milkshakes were very good.

You got all that for like 8 bucks or something. I know you can still order a cheeseburger and fries and then get a shake on the side, but it's the principal of the thing, you know?

Here's how I'd personally rank the chain diners:

1. Perkins
2. Country Kitchen
3. Village Inn (I might put them at 2 just for their pie alone)

(gap)

4. IHOP (Wouldn't touch most menu items, particularly lunch and dinner, but their french toast and pancakes are at least edible)

(reeeeeeally huge gap)

5. Denny's. I don't have a single damn good thing to say about this place. Not a damn thing. Not. A damn. Thing.

Yep.

Among several dishes, they had a surprisingly good spaghetti and meatballs (served with garlic bread that was killer).

Oh! I was about to suggest SNR try Ihop's pot roast which TOO was served w/ garlic bread - but I'd remembered they discontinued it.
