-- Do we owe Perkins Bakery & Cafe a little discussion?

Fine baked goods, great Denver Omeletts? Sourdough country-club sandwich?

Any of you KC folks still visit here? What do you procure at Perkins and why?

Do you only go for the free toy chest up front?

Snicker-doodle cookies? Good baked goods there (I seem to recall)

Whatcha' got?!

I was driving through Kansas once, ate at one maybe in Wichita or McPherson. The place was dirty and smelly. The staff looked like all the homeliest inmates from a women's prison were there on work release. Could have microwaved a Hungry Man dinner and had the same quality food. Hardly anyone was there. I sat there the whole time with my friend making snide comments under our breath.

About 10 minutes before we left, this family came in, mom and dad and a kid about 8 years old. Not to judge a book by its cover but they looked like they probably weren't swimming in money. They sat two tables over and so we could hear them talking to the waitress. Came to learn it was the kid's birthday and his parents would have taken him wherever he wanted to eat that night and he wanted to go to Perkins because it was his favorite place.

I sat there thinking about how this little kid purposely wanted to go there on his birthday and at the same time I was there feeling like I was too good to eat at such a place. I felt like a huge asshole.

I can put up with the dirtiness and the bad food, but I don't go places to feel bad about myself. **** Perkins.

5. Denny's. I don't have a single damn good thing to say about this place. Not a damn thing. Not. A damn. Thing.
I always felt how your order was formed depended on the area.

The Denny's near by is full blown aids but the one 30 mins away was fire.

Yeah, but using the Topeka 'Anything' is not a good barometer in general. That city is the armpit of Kansas and everything in it pretty well sucks.

Perkins isn't bad. Good breakfast dishes. Have a few good sandwiches for lunch. I wouldn't touch their dinner menu though.

So I give it a B- for their breakfast and lunch game.

We don't have any in Phoenix though!
