It's just a joke. We like to make fun of each other a lot. Brian and Josh are more Internet savy so they basically get away with whatever they want on the net, whereas the other members dont really have a clue if that is even on there. =p

Btw, this isn't my band, but my best friends. I happen to run thier sound for them, while singing in 2 of my own bands.

That would be awesome if you could make the TF show.

I grew up on reggae. Love the older bands like Steel Pulse, Inner Circle, Third World, Johnny Clarke, Black Uhuru, etc.
If it's dancehall Buju Banton, Half Pint, Mad Lion, Barrington Levy, Sizzla, ...
But I'm really into the mashing of genres now. Reggae infused with lots of other genres rock, punk, alternative, hip hop, blues.
Rebelution. Soja, The Movement, 77 Jefferson (KC based band), Aaron Kamm and the One Drops, Sun Dried Vibes, Fat Freddy's Drop, Kings and Commrades, Seedless, The Green, Bumpin Uglies, and lots more! I can't believe so few on this board are into reggae. Crazy!

You can't believe reggae isn't more popular on a board made up of middle aged Midwesterners?

Actually no I can't. There's lots of reggae bands across the country. KC, STL, Maine, Seattle.... It's not a regional music! I grew up in STL and was exposed to it early. I think it has more to do with people listening to mainstream radio music and not venturing too far from that path!

The Sublime style california reggae fusion seems to be really getting popular among college and high school kids these days.

Lots of youngsters I know all say they are really into "reggae," but they don't know any of the classic artists.

Yeah it is a growing genre. Most of these people would be shocked to find out that Sublime reworked lots of old reggae songs into their own songs. Lovin by Half Pint is the basis for What I Got. Pawnshop is a remake of a Wailing Souls song, Scarlet Begonias was a Greatful dead song. They borrowed. Lot from past artists. But I'll tell you this. If you go to a reggae show now a days that isn't dancehall, there's a lot of white people there. In fact they're usually the majority.

Aren't most of the new "fusion" bands white dudes as well?

Yes. Although I was talking about when the older artist come play. Like Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytals, even Stephen Marley. I remember in the Marley movie, Bob wanted to find a way to he more black people to the concerts.

Saw Common Ground in Lawrence at the Jazzhaus a bunch of times. Worked with the singer and sax player. I listen to a Pandora reggae channel sometimes, but don't really have any favorite bands. I'll give a listen to the one's you've posted coochie.

Bob Marley of course and I'm not even a fan of raggae? What I find interesting is that nobody else in that genre even comes close to Bob Marley in terms of intrigue, popularity etc. There's not even a close 2nd for that matter. Well, I suppose Peter Tosh is a household name but I couldn't name one of his songs without doing my googles.

Oh, and Shabba Ranks was entertaining as well.

Bob Marley was an icon! He brought the Jamaican reggae sound to the world. He got shot in his own country by people who were afraid he may try and help one of the 2 opposing political parties. Then he went to the concert after being released, to try and bring unity to an island that was in turmoil. Nobody will ever be that big of an icon, his music transcends generations, and he will always have a connection to marijuana.

Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, and a handful of others have left an imprint on the American music industry. But in Jamaica there are quite a few big names that people put on a pedestal. Buju Banton,Vybz Cartel, Burning Spear are all very popular in Jamaica. The sound of Jamaican reggae has changed a lot over the years and it's mostly dancehall that dominates there now. Still rooted in reggae, but much like American music it has become more synthesizer oriented, and broader ranging.
