Mizzou also has to keep the blue chippers in state, something we've been completely unable to do historically. Just look at recent history:

Ben McLemore
Otto Porter
Ben Hansbrough
Tyler Hansbrough
Alex Burke
Brandon Rush
Bradley Beale

Those are all players from the state of Missouri that went elsewhere. Add a couple of those guys to the mix, and you're talking about one of the top programs in the country every year. We have basically missed out on a lottery pick caliber player per year on average since Mike Anderson was hired.

Who in the Big 12 is going to be good next year? KSU, WVU, OU, and Tech are all losing their QBs. Diet OK seems like they will be solid, but I don't see them being great. Texas still doesn't have a QB. Baylor strikes me as a middle of the road team. Same with TCU.

Iowa State is poised to make a title run on Planet Rustshack, but they will win about 6 games like they always do. Kansas is Kansas. Is there a great team in the league? I don't even see one that I would be confident saying they are really good.

I believe OSU has been stock piling some talent, but its really hard to say until the classes are in and teams have plugged juco help where they think they need it.

Also, OU might have its own "transformer" QB in the Bell-dozer. He was a highly rated QB in high school. The evolution of the Linebacker QB:

Tim Tebow - runs hard, jump pass, average passer

Colin Klein - runs hard, decent passer

Blake Bell - runs hard, could be a great passer

Iowa State can be good next year, but things will have to click. Our OC who is in his first year needs to show a lot of improvement at playcalling.. and Rohach has to step up as a freshman at QB. Hes RSing this year, but signs seem to be pointing to him jumping Barnett as the starter next year.

So it might be a year where we take a step back to take a few steps forward.... but I still wouldn't expect worse than 6-6 next year. A lot of promising prospects on offense who are in their first few years of the program... but there wont be much experience.

Its just a feeling. He went to a football camp at ISU when Mizzou's was the same day and has made a few visits. Seems to be forming a good relationship with Paul Rhoads. Also a rumor he isn't as impressed with Mizzou in the SEC as he was before they played.

Who knows.

It's a shame that (as of today) 4 top-10 teams will be left out of BCS games.

Who knows.
Campos grew up as a huge ISU fan. He has had a good relationship with Rhoads for a long time. The football camp thing is not something to point at, but the pull of home-state ties?

I'll never completely count out a home-state school until signing day. Still, I haven't seen or heard any rumors about him wavering.

Many of Missouri's problems in the SEC relate directly to uninspiring play at the position Campos plays, due to injury. Young backups haven't exactly crushed it, either. He'd have a great opportunity to play a lot - or even start - as a rs. freshman.

Missouri is going to end up 1-2 games below general expectations of the team, at most. In a year in which 8/10 players on the OL two-deep at the start of fall camp have missed time (and all of the original projected starters) and the starting QB has played (or not played) with a bum throwing shoulder and/or bum knee.

If that convinces Campos that ISU is for him, so be it.

Forget BJ Young as well. But go back to the 90s and early 00s.

Jahidi White
Derek Hood
Tyronn Lue
Ryan Robertson
Chris Carrawell
Loren Woods
Cookie Belcher
Larry Hughes
JaRon Rush
Robert Archbald
David Lee

1998 season - MU could have had:
Ryan Robertson
Cookie Belcher
Chris Carrawell
Derek Hood
Loren Woods
JaRon Rush as 6th man

That is probably a Final Four/National Championship type squad.

The Missouri coaching staff thought Bell was a better prospect than Blaine Gabbert, coming out of HS. It wouldn't surprise me to see Bell go Beast Mode next season.

Re: Missouri HS basketball talent fleeing...

Suitcase Mike really screwed Missouri in his last recruiting year.

He got outworked by Billy Donovan for Beale, which is a travesty. BD saw more Chaminade games than Suitcase. Inexcusable.

He didn't work hard on Porter, who probably would have committed early to Mizzou if they'd made him a priority.

He held his nose on Young because he was lazy/bad attitude.

And on McLemore... they made up ground until he went to prep school (at which point his chance of being accepted into a 4-year school directly after HS was about the same as his GPA - practically 0), and then KU went way back out in front.

That class is going to be crippling to look back at, probably as bad as Tyler Hansbrough and Brandon Rush.

As bad as 2005 was, 1995 and 1996 were worst.
