In any case, at least there are plays that allow Geno Smith to show off his arm strength and downfield capabilities. That's far more (and better) information that we have to go off of than we got from Ryan Tannehill last year. If you'll remember, Tannehill was criticized because he never threw downfield... only screens. Some of those were play designs, but a lot of them were dumpoffs because Tannehill couldn't find the open guy down the field.

I agree.

That's why I'd rather have him than Glennon, Wilson, or anybody else for that matter.

And it's not that I believe Geno is a total project. Cause the #1 overall pick should never be a project. But I think if you plugged him into the NFL right now, he'd be average. Give him the right system, and coach to work with him, and I think he'd be great.

I chalk that up to footwork more than anything. Even then, I don't find that to be a problem at all.

When I say antsy, I mean can't ****ing do your goddamn ****ing job under pressure. Geno completes throws when he knows he's going to get hit. Glennon does not.

Anyone who has sat and watched him play should be able to see the ability he has regardless of the offense he's running.

I haven't gotten a chance to watch all of Barkley yet. I'll get there soon... But if you want to talk about captain checkdown, then Tyler Wilson is your guy. He rarely throws beyond 20 yards.

You'll see it maybe 5 times a game. The other 30 attempts or so will be checkdowns to the runningback, and hitting receivers on shallow crosses at the LOS.

The thing I DO like about Wilson is that he's used to making throws from strange angles and positions. His feet are almost never set correctly, and he moves around a lot like Jay Cutler. But if a guy can still be accurate while throwing off balance, and with defenders in your face, I have to admire that in a QB. Wilson takes a beating each and every game. That O-line is a disaster. But I really fail to see any kind of special factor with Wilson. I think he could be a below average starter. Or a decent back up in the NFL. Really not much more.

Nearly every offense incorporates concepts for the AirRaid such as mesh, shallow cross, smash, etc.

Holgerson places different primaries on his progressions, which is why you might see different results IMO.

But on a side note, I think the criticism of Mike Glennon is too much. He led a game winning touchdown drive against a top 5 defense in the FBS. Although he played conservative in that game, he loves to stretch the field. He plays under center quite a bit, and sells the play action pretty well.

His intermediate passes are usually pretty accurate, and he's not afraid to take chances downfield unless he's playing Florida State. His pocket awareness needs improvement, as he has been stripped a few times, but Geno is actually one of the worst about getting strip-sacked in the pocket.

Glennon is a late to mid first round guy in my opinion. He's a goofy lookin mother ****er. But I'd rather judge what he looks like with a helmet and pads on. He has some supreme potential.

I still would rather take Geno though. But we better work with him.

Gee, it would have been nice to have a GM who hired Philbin + Tom Clements last year...

I think Geno is going to be a ****ing rock star from day one.

And I think you are being a little too critical of his feet. He doesn't have happy feet. He's moving them to keep them under his shoulders. Yes, he could plant better, but he does quickly plant and throw a lot and that's the reason for his movement. It's also a reason for his accute pocket awareness and quick mobility in the pocket. It's also a reason for his accuracy levels as he's actually planting, albeit very quickly, and throwing.

If you watch Geno, he's got an insanely fast release and his feet and planting are geared towards that. He's not just slinging the ball off his front foot on the move a la Brett Favre.

If you want to see "happy feet" from a high level NFL QB prospect, go watch Mark Sanchez at USC. That's happy feet. Geno doesn't have happy feet.

And I'll say it again, the release is the key.

Brady and Manning may be the two most un-athletic QB's in the league, but they've got two of the quickest releases I've ever seen.

Geno has that. The ball absolutely bursts off his hand. Goes from zero to receiver as quick as I've ever seen at the college level. The NFL is all about speed. Geno has minimal windup and the ball immediately leaves his hand at a high apex with amazing controlled velocity. Honestly, it's the best I can remember from a college quarterback in the past 15 or 20 years.
