Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Watched it last weekend was expecting more with all of the very positive reviews. I felt it ended up being an decent enough comedy with a few pretty good moments.

I also found the chick who rann the charity to be pretty damn annoying. The same actress is also in the new Starz series Party Down and I really dislike her in that as well.

She (the woman that ran the charity) is in stuff all the time now. She's always in the Christopher Guest movies like Best in Show, she must be old SCTV or something. I actually liked her in this movie more than some of the others.
I thought it was pretty funny, but I must admit it didn't hold my interest that much. I stopped watching maybe 3/4 of the way through and never watched the end. Not that it was bad or anything, just that I sort of lost interest after a while.
I thought the actors worked well with each other.

Watched W. and Slumdog Millionaire last night.

Both were really pretty good. I was actually quite impressed with W. since I typically HATE Oliver Stone. Man, Josh Brolin is good.

I've never seen a Bond before that scared me. They were always suave and debonair. With Daniel Craig's Bond, he's the kind of guy I don't want to be in an alley with. That character is frightening to me, and I love it.
I think you're pretty spot on with your analysis of Craig. I think they have done a good job of making him smooth with the ladies and still allow him to struggle. That's what kills me about the other Bonds, they do all the crazy shit, and still try to play it off as easy. Craig's character has to struggle and that makes it much more exciting IMO.

That and he is a BAMF.

Why didn't you like Quantum of Solace?

Craig is my favorite Bond. The only thing I don't like is that he kind of makes a Zoolander face sometimes.

Too much action, frankly. I thought they did a precious little character development. They changed the creative team, and I think that was a mistake.

I haven't seen QoS since it came out, although I'm probably watching it later on DVD.

I thought they did it right at the time. It wasn't about character development, it was about anger and revenge and ultimately pushing bond more towards becoming 007.

We'll see what I think after I watch both of them again.

I understand the point of the movie, but the character has to progress, too. And I thought it was lacking in QoS.

But like you, I haven't seen it since the first time in the theater. I will give it another shot, like I always do.

Eh that's valid. I thought it was OK.

Spoiler!

I'd be interested to know what aspects of his character you thought they should have developed.

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it or something. I just thought it was that generic comedy that's been rehashed about a million times. I guess I'm the only one that finds Mclovin' more annoying than funny.

The little kid in it was pretty funny.

I'm catching up on movie watching now that I got a new television, and finally got around to getting the home theater set up. Blu-ray....

Watched "Wall-E" this weekend, Slumdog Millionaire is coming in the mail today.

Oh - worth noting that I picked up American Psycho on Blu-Ray. The transfer was somewhat disappointing, didn't look terribly different from the DVD copy,... and I now have 3 copies of this film.

They set it up in the Casino Royale. You can't put forward the expectation and not follow through.
