Hell, nothing in life is really free. There is always some kind of cost to everything.

I dont have a problem with their business concept because it works. The cheapskate in me doesnt like it, but i understand why they do it, and i dont have a problem with it.

I love how everyone thinks its bad to bitch about companies business practices because "it's only business."

If nobody complains nothing has any chance of changing.

Plus, I don't complain about their $50 per year fee for gaming. I bitch about their forcing members of the same household to pay separate fees for the same friggin service and how they are now withholding special deals from silver members even more in order to get them to upgrade.

I don't think it's bad to bitch about things, Lord knows that I do. I can see your point on the separate consoles though. But it's not a bad service and I don't mind paying $50/yr and sometimes you can find a better deal too in a store. But I doubt they will ever make it free and it wouldn't be fair to the people who pay if the people got the same benefits that didn't pay.

That i agree with,b ut i am the only one that games in my household. So, it doesnt affect me directly like it does with you and your son. They should make it so that all accounts on only that xbox work with gold. That is bullshit right there.

I don't expect them to ever make it free. just to make some changes. I have said several times that it is a good service and better than Sony's free online. But, I can live with Sony's free service as I don't spend a lot of time online anyway.

Your point about M$ never going free because of it pissing off currently paying customers is exactly why I don't like their business model. It can never change for the better because they have so many people tied to them now. With the cost of ISPs going up rather than down PLUS the ISPs keep scaling back their speeds while upping the charges, paying for more online services becomes less of an option for many people.

ISPs is going up? i just got a huge discount on my cable. I went from 40 a month, down to 30 becuase i told them i was going to change to dsl, so they gave me 6 months at 30. There is no way in hell they want to lose costomers right now with the economy how it is.

Again, you can only get the good deals from the person who actually disconnects the service. Gotta work them.

We only have two high speed ISPs in Topeka. They don't even attempt to compete for your money. You take it or leave it.

Try having Cox cable & AT&T slow ass DSL as your choices. Cox KNOWS that anyone that really wants to surf the net and look at good quality porn needs to have their cable.

Those are my only choices. I pay $25 per month for 1.5mb Express DSL from ATT. Last year I had 3.0mb Pro from ATT for only $19 per month. $6 increase and half the speed. I have no doubt in my mind they are going to raise rates again next year as well. par for the course and I will have to drop to basic teir at 768kb and still spend what I am spending this year.

Cox is overpriced for a speed I just plain don't need and their tiers suck ass. There is no way in hell I am paying $40 to $50 per month for the friggin internet. Going from $20 to $25 was damn painful step for me as I think internet is only worth $20 max.

This alone is the only reason I haven't forked out $30 for the Playon service. I have no doubt it won't stream worth a crap if I drop to 768 and I don't want to feel forced to upgrade just to be able to use that. I think online gamine will still function fine at 768 though as I have had large downloads running while still playing online.

I am glad we have common ground on some things.

There is no reason for M$ to charge per person in a household other than the fact it is a cash grab. If I have a friend over that wants to use his profile on my box they can track that because a family machine should be made up of all sub accounts and one main account. If you are not a sub then it is obvious you are not a member of that console. That is all MS needs to do to track that supposed dilemma.

I'll agree with you on that one. My girlfriend likes to play Halo 3 and she doesn't like to be a guest. She also likes to play Left 4 Dead. Having to pay for two accounts on the same box is stupid.

Holy crap ... you're getting hosed.

We used to have the same thing, mainly because it was the only speed they had out where I live. (And technically, we're too far away -- 17,000 feet from a station -- and weren't even supposed to have that.)

They upgraded us a few months back to the 3.0 but, for some reason, they never raised our price. We only pay $12 a month for it.

You need to call AT&T and pitch a bitch.
