I agree that it's kind of disingenuous. Kyle obvious wasn't at the ready and therefore not "...with a gun." However, what are we supposed to do, walk around with a gun pointed at everyone just in case? Of course people take the opportunity to murder when others aren't ready. People don't duel anymore. So in the end, it's saying if we can't stop people from getting a jump on others, how do we curb this?

My thoughts exactly. I think it hurts because when this board lampoons someones death it is typically someone who is either completely anonymous or completely "deserving" of that fate. This guy is someone who, many, would hold in a very high regard for his service alone... let alone the fact that he was attempting to help a fellow ex-soldier recover from PTSD.

Dunno... but I'm obviously not the only person who felt some uncomfortableness with the drawing.

All political cartoons "use" someone by nature

If the point was solid, I wouldn't have any problem with that at all. Unfortunately it is just a weak point. It's an incredibly unique situation (due to some of the factors you stated) and so is not a good microcosm of the "good man with a gun" argument. That's what makes it kinda cheap to me. If the point had been more apt, I wouldn't care in the slightest.

You often have to use individuals to make a point, because statistics are harder for people to get their mind around. The fact that the cartoonist used Kyle, if anything, shows that he understands the tragic nature of his death and knows it will have a strong impact. Maybe a little opportunistic, but that's most political cartoons I see.

Perhaps if God calls him home soon, the folks at the WBC can attend his services. For once they might not be countered by anybody...

I love how cartoonist love to stir things up and as soon as they get a reaction people come running to their defense... It's not OK to threaten anyone's life but these guys are Pros at what they do, so they know they're usually not being the least bit funny, and they're trying to get a reaction. LOL, they need to man-up when they know they're playing with the minds of very emotional people...

And......I wonder if any of them, or the people they work for, have hired anybody with guns to protect their family and them. Wouldn't that be funny?
