We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

I'm waiting to see what Mauk does before forming an opinion on that part of it. I think it had as much to do w/ constantly running for his life as it did playing hurt.

I don't want a 'dinged' Franklin anywhere near the field. He's simply a completely different football player when he's not confident in his body. If there's something not 100% right on the kid, he's a complete liability.

Agreed. He's terrible when dinged up. He will be off on all of his passes, no way would I chance it.

The thought of this season devolving into last season just depresses the hell out of me. I don't want 6-0 turning into 8-4 and playing in the No1Cur.com Bowl.

That would be just like 2006, started 6-0 with Daniel as a sophomore and only won 2 more games, lost to Oregon State on a 2 point conversion, that was an awful year.

Devil's advocacy: Franklin may be more motivated to play with abandon (and maybe even take an aspirin) this year since he'll know that a potential shot at the NFL is riding on the line. That motivation, if present at all, was less urgent last season.

I don't think it would be a case of Franklin playing hurt at that point. I agree that I would rather see a 100 percent Mauk than an unhealthy Franklin.

Seems like Pinkel and co. think he can be 100 percent recovered, quickly, at this point.

And there's a big difference in treatment/recovery, too ... he's apparently accepting any and all treatments to get back on the field (KK was right on that one, I think).

As in, he's OK with painkillers? Annoying as shit for a football player to be otherwise.

Before he didn't want to take a shot to mask pain and hurt his arm further by playing.
Now he is agreeing to all treatments in order to get well.

I figure Florida can comfortably put up 14 on Missouri's defense. I think you also need to account for seven points that Mauk's inexperience will likely give them. The target score should be 24, not 17.
