Todd Haley Is Giving One Reporter A Giant Headache

Barry Petchesky
We like NFL.com's Ian Rapoport—good guy, good sources, good track record. But nobody deserves the head-spinning confusion he's dealing with today, thanks to Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who might be interviewing for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching gig. Or he might not be. Or maybe yes. Rapoport's on the case.

The NFL coaching dance, in a series of Tweets:
Ed Bouchette@EdBouchette#steelers Haley in Arizona today interviewing for Cardinals job 9 Jan 13
Ian Rapoport@RapSheet
Haley's agent denied this. Sigh. Checking back... RT@EdBouchette: #steelers Haley in Arizona today interviewing for Cardinals job9 Jan 13

@RapSheet
What I know: One #Steelers coach believes Todd Haley is inteviewing with Cardinals. His agent Jerome Stanley told me: "No interview."

#Cardinals requested interview with Todd Haley. Source close to Haley: "He loves Steelers job. He's very happy. No interview with Cards."

#Steelers President Art Rooney confirms that Haley is interviewing for #Cardinals job
This is unreal. RT @EdBouchette #Steelers President Art Rooney confirms that Haley is interviewing for #Cardinalsjob.

To recap, Haley's agent told Rapoport Haley isn't in Arizona. A Pittsburgh Post-Gazettereporter said he was. Rapoport got another denial from the agent. The Steelers owner said it was true. Rapoport has a sad.

With Todd Haley interviewing with the #Cardinals & #Steelers offense ranked 21st, why Rooney says he did a good job

Rooney noted that the new offense was right on pace through nine games for Ben Roethlisberger to have his most productive season and for him to achieve one goal of having much fewer sacks. But after injuries to his right shoulder and rib in the ninth game, Rooney noted that the offense lost its rhythm and failed to regain its momentum when he returned after missing three games.

"What we had was pretty good," Rooney said, describing the offense before his quarterback's injuries.

He added that the second year of a new offense should be better, and called Haley "a good young coach" who has opportunities, including his interview today for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job.
