For all the prognosticating by everyone with the new round of expansion talks, you think the lesson everyone would have learned by now is this.....there is nothing that is "impossible".

There are alot of "improbable" scenarios....just for monetary reasons. But they aren't impossible with a room full of lawyers and a whole lot of concessions. We've already seen that.

Kind of why I love(d?) the Big East, honestly. Most of the football schools have a lot in common, and the quality in basketball bridges any gaps with the (city-based) Catholic schools. Now if the everyone can just play some games against each other before richer conferences expand again.

ahh, OK fair enough. I think the definition of "possible" in this context, is extremely remote, but its not worth burning calories.

I'm also a fan. (the mspaint stories are almost always gold)

This post (in their ~350-page realignment thread) made me choke on my coffee, and it could be useful here.

For anyone joining this thread (malign fiesta) without the benefit (pain) of having lived (endured) it from the beginning, I want to take a moment to list the “immovable objects” that the super-majority of posters on this thread agreed upon a jabillion pages ago. A few posters are listing these individually, but I wanted to collect them in an one-stop-shoppe.

Twenty percent of the bandwidth from the past 72 hours has been completely wasted on topics and speculation that are fantasy and self-aggrandizing fan fapping. It would be useful and fair to ask, as realignment heats up YET AGAIN, does your post add value? Do you have anything to *ADD* or are you just screaming a wishful personal opinion? Are you advancing the argument or adding REAL analysis? Are you reporting NEWS? Finally, if you are convinced you have a GRAND REALIGNMENT STRATEGY that also serves to supplant the need for an Unified Field Theory of Quantum Mechanics, please note, we’ve seen ONE HUNDRED PLANS just as big, large, and/or grandiose as your thesis/tract/novel, earlier in this thread, and the probability that anyone of import is going to read it is low, and the probability that the rest of us are going skip over it, is high.

1. Domer to the b1g. It will be the last possible move on the chessboard. In the year 2312. Don’t argue it. Don’t waste bandwidth on it. Just accept it. As far as anyone alive today is concerned, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

2a. Tobacco Road. Monolithic. They will go down together kicking and screaming.
2b. Virginia and the CIC could potentially be an exception to this, clearing the VPI -> SEC politics off the table.
2c. UNC/NCST v. Texas/aggy. There is no difference. In the case of Texas and the PUF, Little Brother TWICE kokblocked Big Brother, but Little Brother was able to leave on their own accord, and NCST will too.

3. TX + OU + ? PAC
The Grant of Rights and the LHN prevent this. Please do not waste any time discussing it, wishing for it or fapping to it.

4. TX + OU + ? SEC
The Grant of Rights and the LHN prevent this. Please do not waste any time discussing it, wishing for it, or fapping to it.

5. FSU + Clemson SEC
The tripartite pact (Florida/Georgia/SCarolina) and the coming SEC network prevents this. Please do not waste any time discussing it, wishing for it, or fapping to it.

6. $600M. That’s the approximate number CBS pays for the AFC package every year. The idea that any college payout package, including tier 1/2/3, is going be worth MORE than the AFC on CBS? Draw your own conclusion.

7. aggy
Be glad they are gone. Celebrate them being gone. Never forget, they WILL find a way to screw themselves. aggy in the secsecsec is still aggy. Our problems are self-inflicted.

It pains me that ND will likely never join a major conference.

I don't really agree with much of this. Comparing the AFC package to a college football package doesn't really make much sense, either. Combined 1-3 tier rights makes for a lot more inventory than what CBS has for the AFC.

I don't understand why the B1G is taking in Rutgers. I understand it's party of the NY market but there's so many schools in that area plus college football isn't a huge deal up there. I can understand Maryland although the football team sucks. I'm afraid this hurts the overall brand.

Yep, this is a poor move for the conference but a great deal for the two teams being added.

Top 11 in population - which means a big chunk of change for the Big Ten Network
Top notch academics - they are a Big Ten school clone
Big Ten schools love to recruit NJ - Penn State, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc.
Big time sleeping giant in football - Big Ten should jump start them
NYC will watch when Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State come to town

I'll give you population and academics. As far as recruiting I don't think New Jersey is a hot bed for college football recruits you get some here and there.

If you are going to dilute the conference you might as well go further south instead of north. Would have been better to see them go after the research triangle thus adding a pipeline to recruit in the south where much of the talent in college football comes. Not only that but you would also have the best college basketball conference and it wouldn't even be close.

Maryland is fine academically, but they're not the type of public ivy that Michigan is. Virginia would have been a far, far better fit in that regard.

With Rutgers, NY doesn't give a mother**** about this school in terms of athletics. But the Big 10 should congratulate itself on cornering the Jersey Shore market.

In short, this reminds me of the PAC adding Utah.

I'm thrilled with adding Maryland as long as it opens up recruiting in the D.C. area. Some nice talent out there.

Guess Boise State, San Diego State and BYU are back in talks with the Mountain West Conference in coming back. After the meetings in Denver last week, it is apparent to BYU they are actually behind the MWC in getting a chance at top notch bowls. San Diego State and Boise State realize the mass exodus of the remaining top tier Big East schools make their move to that conference not needed. The TV contract for the Big East will be nothing after the top remaining schools head off for the ACC (UConn/Louisville) and the loss of Rutgers to the B1G.
