****Official Mizzou Head Basketball Coach Search****

Thought I'd start a new one of these. The old one is infected with the Haith Aids plus it had the wrong number of astericks.

Tim Floyd wouldn't be in my top five choices, but you can't deny that he is a better hire then Anderson.

Marshall still seams like a pipe dream.

Even if you polish that UTEP turd until it is shiny, it is still a turd lol

Div II is what it is but the talent level is not Div I that is for sure. Central still made it to 3 final 4, a bunch of conference and conference tourney titles, along wi a national championship. Mizzou will never do that
I'm not trying to polish a turd. Simply pointing out the absurdity of saying unequivocally a DII team would beat a good DI team.

I'm from the Sedalia/Warrensburg area, so I'm pretty familiar with CMSU's accomplishments. I think it's nice that it's a strong program, and I watched the CMSU semifinal and final. But at the end of the day, it's still AA baseball compared to the top 100 or so DI programs (MLB in this example).

Oh, and if true then...
They have reached out through intermediaries, like always happens in coaching searches, so both the coach and the school can save face if a connection is not made.

Info I got indicated they reached out Friday afternoon, with an opening offer at $2.5 million. No clue how things have progressed past that, though.

That we are 5 days later and Marshall's agent has not made a blanket statement dismissing the possibility tells me that Missouri is still trying.

I'd much rather have Tim Floyd than Kim Anderson. Honestly, I doubt that anyone here cares about your coach or your team at all in terms of this coaching search.

This Kim Anderson to MU debate reminds me of the Bobby Sippio debates we had here.

Things to like about Tim Floyd:
  • He built a good team at Iowa St so he's shown he can recruit to the midwest and compete in a major conference.
  • He's already had his fill of the NBA
  • He wants the Mizzou job. Apparently he made an overture last time around too.
  • He's old enough that he may see a successful Mizzou run as a destination rather than a stepping stone.

If Mizzou can land a Marshall or another hot property then that will be great. If they can't, we could do a lot worse than Tim Floyd IMO.

A couple of additional points:

1. Apparently the NCAA found no evidence of Floyd knowingly violating NCAA rules at USC. This article is pretty interesting for people who, like me, only remembered the strange departure of Floyd from USC and the subsequent rumors of shady dealings.

2. I knew Bob Stull came from UTEP, but I learned from the above article that he is now UTEP's athletic director so he has been Floyd's boss. I wonder if that has anything to do with Floyd's interest in Mizzou's job or if it's just coincidence.

What's up with Howland? He's built a winner everywhere, usually out of nothing. The last few years at UCLA don't look great, but overall he had success there. Guy on 810 this morning said we should be able to get Marshall if we back up a brinks truck, if we don't want to do that we could almost certainly get Howland.

What gives? Just Mizzou?

You know, I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes and who's contacting who and offering what. The only thing I really know is, "Just Mizzou". Right now I'm looking for one of my old college calculus books and duct tape to get ready for the all-too-predictable gut punch.

Only thing I can figure is that they're somehow worried about the NCAA coming down on him due to the Shabazz Muhammad stuff.

The NCAA went on a witch hunt there... and I suppose it's possible you could be concerned they are going to be closely watching Howland at his next stop/waiting to drop the hammer as soon as it can.

Other than that, there's nothing to NOT like about Ben Howland.

If all else fails they could try Randy Wiel who is from the Dean Smith coaching tree.

That's pretty much where I am at.

We are stuck with Alden, they aren't going to fire him anytime soon. If he just hires someone respectable that's probably all we can expect from him.

If the Painter and Haith fiasco didn't cook his goose, he must have incriminating photos of someone

CBB is 85% recruiting. Anderson may be a great X's and O's guy, but that doesn't mean that he's anything more than a second-tier assistant. He's Ernie Nestor, at best.

Ugh.. Alden better do his homework then. Can you imagine if the same thing happened with his 2nd bball coach in a row. I bet he isn't even considering Howland if there's a chance at the NCAA coming down on him.
