Dishwasher broken

My dishwasher won't work--its a Kenmore, about 8 years old.
Stops midway through the cycle. I learned to do the thing where you press a series of buttons to reset it, but in the end the thing won't dry.

I assume I need a new heating element thingy. That sound right?
Do I have to call those dickheads at Sears or can someone else supply this?
How difficult to do it myself?

I tried running antifreeze through it and it didn't help.

Thanks!

So what's the fix? Increase the temp on the water heater?

I just do this one thing where I use this soap shit and a dishrag and run the water. then I put the soap on the dishrag and put it under the water a bit and then rub the dishrag against bowls, pans, and plates. then i just run the water onto that stuff and let the soap and food vanish and then it's clean. idk...crazy method, but it works.

A reboot of sorts.
I had problem with my fridge once--had a Sears dickhead come out.
He took off an easily-accessible panel, pushed a couple of buttons, and it worked fine. "That's the first thing we check," he said as he wrote up the bill.

That shit could have just been in the Troubleshooting of the manual. Or they could have just told me to check that on the phone. After some arguing, I paid some small trip fee.

Technically, only your first dish got clean (assuming the dishrag was clean when you started). Then you rubbed filth from dish #1 onto dish #2, and so on.
The last dish was probably cleaner before you "washed" it!

Those companies are in business to make money. Do you give away your trade secrets so that you don't have a job?

Yeah doing dishes the old fashioned way killed a lot of people back in the day.

We bought a Kenmore front loader washing machine from Sears a bunch of years ago. Almost right away, it started having some vibration and noise issues. They sent the repair guy out and he determined that they needed to replace the drum and a bunch of other parts in the machine. I was watching him write up the order and told him that the replacement parts cost more than what we paid for the thing new and why don't they just give us a new one instead of tearing our almost new machine apart and breaking all the seals and such.

He asked me if we bought the extended warranty. I told him no and that we had bought the washer new less than a month before and it was still on the manufacturer warranty. He told me that they would only replace it if we bought an extended warranty and otherwise, we had to wait for them to fix this one. We were without a washing machine for almost three weeks and even then, the thing never really worked right after that. We fought it for about four years but ended up taking it to the dump when it started getting some kind of grease on our clothes while it washed them.

What?!? What for?

For fixing it.

But you didn't do anything.

Yes, I fixed it.

But you didn't take it apart.

I still fixed it.

Why so much?

It's off hours.

But it's 2 o'clock?!?

Yeah, but it's Friday!

Friday's are my Saturdays.
Damn right. Back in the day, if this were an easy fix for a PC, I'd charge the ****ers. Teach them a lesson.

Ok that was funny.

As to the question, I think they only go about 10 years most o the time so you're probably close to a new one anyway. I've had them repaired in te past and buying new costs about the same in the long run with fewer hassles
