Farewell to Fireman*Ed

Someone asked last night in the*Sunday Night Football Extra*live chat what I think about the decision of Fireman Ed to walk away from his status as the unofficial mascot of the Jets.

.But it bears mentioning that the most recognizable fan of the most notorious NFL team has decided to pack it in.In a column written for*Metro New York, which Peter King explained last night is a free newspaper that no one reads, Ed Anzalone explains that he’s calling it quits because of*run-ins with other Jets fans.

“The stadium has become divided because of the quarterback controversy,” the Fireman formerly known as Ed wrote.* “The fact that I chose to wear a Mark Sanchez*jersey this year and that fans think I am on the payroll — which is an outright lie — have made these confrontations more frequent.* Whether it’s in the stands, the bathroom or the parking lot, these confrontations are happening on a consistent basis.”

So farewell, Fireman Ed.* It was nice knowing you.* Even though we didn’t know you.* And even though it wasn’t particularly nice.

I have enjoyed meeting all the wonderful Jets fans around the world and look forward to the day we all can raise the Lombardi Trophy as one and celebrate a world championship down the Canyon of Heroes!I will always love the Jets because they are in my heart, and I will attend games as usual, just not as Fireman Ed. Wait, so were the fans giving him shit because he wore a Sanchez jersey and not a Tebow jersey?

If someone walked into Arrowhead stadium would people give him shit for wearing a Brady Quinn jersey instead of a Ricky Stanzi jersey?

I think just showing up at Arrowhead is cause for ridicule these days. It doesn't matter what you're wearing.

I saw some other article where he said he was still going to show up at games, but he wasn't going to show up as "Fireman Ed".

I don't mind either of them. I kinda wish we had a signature chant, to be honest.

Ill take the "loudest stadium in the NFL" title back once we're good though. That's better than any chant.
