Call of Duty will go head-to-head with Battlefield 3 in 2011.

The third game in the series, which will be shown to press during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, is set for release this coming fall, Electronic Arts confirmed.

The publisher revealed the first teaser trailer for the game on its official website tonight. The trailer, which contains no actual gameplay, displays quick cuts of helicopters, ground troops, tanks and fighter jets.

Additional details courtesy of the official Battlefield Blog confirm a full single-player and co-op campaign, jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer for the PC version. The Frostbite 2 engine will power the game and a Limited Edition will be revealed around GDC.

Developer DICE confirmed earlier this morning it was canceling the release of Battlefield 1943 and the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught pack for PC.

Now that this series popularity is rising, I sure hope Dice doesn't start popping out these games every year. I like the strategy of releasing a game and then supporting it with DLC for a few years. Not to mention I think the PC community will be releasing some great mods for this game.

I just don't want DICE going for the rinse and repeat development cycle of their competitors who release basically the same game every holiday season.

There were 2 separate teams working on those COD games, so unless EA employs a 2nd studio to work on the BF franchise, I think you're safe. I think the shortest possible cycle a studio can push an AAA title through is 2 years.

that's a good point. Seemed COD/MW became very diluted with relatively few changes year-to-year.

I'd like BF3 to remain for a while with DLC to satisfy games cravings for 'new' stuff. Then release a completely new game every other year etc.

IIRC They said BF was not going to be an annual franchise. If you encounter the invincibility glitch, use explosives.

I downloaded the BTK pack the other day, and last night while I was playing I got kicked off when getting ready to start a new round with a message something to the effect of "you are playing an unsupported game" etc.

is the BTK pack just 1 map or a couple? Just curious as I have yet to play any of the new maps. Not sure if BTK is only availabe in certain game modes...

one other thing, the download itself was quick;....like 45 seconds quick. I'm assuming it should take much much longer than that. I wonder if my download got screwed up.

It seemed to me that they kinda nerfed the INV scope. I can't pick out targets nearly as easy as I could with it before the patch.

Four maps. Wake Island has been around since the Battlefield 1942 demo came out before the game was even released. Strike At Karkand , Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula were all originally for BF:2. Wake Island probably has the most diversity in vehicles while the other 3 have great urban combat where tanks own everything.

I've played quite a few rounds, but never had any of them pop up.

yeah, I pre-ordered / limited edition etc.

I went to the PS store the other day, found it, entered my redeem code, and it started downloaded. But the download was over super quick. like about a minute or two. So I wonder if it download properly.

gave me the 'download complete' message etc; and then went into install IIRC.

Maybe the quickmatch screen is the problem. Try going tot he server screen and filter out the original 12 maps.

I saw you jumped into the last 2 rounds I played last night. That was a very good team. We won every match on offense and on defense never let the first set of M-Coms get destroyed.
