Bloomberg: Wal-Mart Raises Hourly Wage to $11 in Wake of Tax Overhaul

Quote:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is boosting its starting hourly wage to $11 and delivering bonuses to employees, capitalizing on the U.S. tax overhaul to stay competitive in a tightening labor market.

The increase takes effect next month and will cost $300 million on top of annual wage hikes that were already planned, the world’s largest retailer said Thursday. The one-time bonus of up to $1,000 is based on seniority and will amount to an additional $400 million. The company is also expanding its maternity and parental leave policy and adding an adoption benefit...

That all adds up. I think we are saying if you are lucky enough to find a job or produce your own income in your proximity it is quite affordable. There are lots of Walmarts in communities with similar rent structures that are always looking for good people.

There is no flip side.

Companies make multiple decisions every day for different reasons. Do you morns expect everything in a business to change cause the tax code did. The America people are dumb as dogshit sometimes.

Overall, been a rather bad week for the Anti-America/Anti Trump crowd.

They were making all these changes regardless of the tax bill and is always announced in mid-Jan before the new fiscal year begins in Feb.

They were doing it because of a tight market for employees and you guys eat this shit up because they did Trump a solid (lie) for making it easy to reach bonus targets

I live 3.5 miles away from my $16.50 job. I do drive a 3/4 ton 4WD truck so I do burn quite a bit of fuel.

Remember, this whole conversation started about rural living and $11/hr. Traffic is not an issue out here unless one considers 8 to 10 cars a day burdensome.

I will admit I landed in a honey pot, but it happens all over rural America. Many folks just don't like being 1000 miles from a Macy's or Starbucks. It's a trade off. One I hope city folk will not bite on, like me and IowaHawkeyeChief joked about earlier.

I gotta disagree.

In my experience working shitty jobs, the majority of American do work, and work well and hard.

Americans as a whole are good hard workers. I really wish we acknowladge that and stop fussing over the minority that arent.

And I will always support aid, even if someone gets it who shouldnt.

That's better than someone who needs it not getting it because of fear someone you think shouldn't will get help.

No one seems to know what’s gonna happen.
What’s going to happen is a major Trump boom.

There are around 8 million men of working age between 24 and 54 out of the workforce. I think the people that get aid that shouldn't is the same a giving Percocet to and Opiate addict. It is enabling.

I don't know if you have kids, but will you give them aid when they are 25 and not doing anything and want to live in your basement, or would you force them out of the house and take care of their selves like you did?
