Help Me Pick the Next Blowfish Mobile!

Well, Mr. Jeep is on his last legs. Time to find a new ride. I've driven Jeep Grand Cherokees since 1993. My current is a 2002 with 248,000 miles, and stuff keeps breaking, so time to bail out.

Looking to spend around $25 Grand, and think I can do a Jeep Grand that's maybe 2 or 3 years old for that.

My brother in law has a Ford Edge and really likes it. Don't know if I can swing a brand new car, even thought the financing would be much lower than used.

Any advice as to SUV models I should look at? I don't care about car color, I'm not towing anything, all I care about is will it go through the snow (4x4 or AWD) and I'd like to get heated seats this time.

What say you?

And, for you CPers who work for car dealers, you can PM me if you like, as long as you're in the KC Area, I'll consider what you have to say.

The last car my wife and I bought was from a CPer and it was a very satisfactory transaction.

Can you help a brother out???

I'm about to hit 100K on my 2010 Outback. Got over 60,000 out of the Continentals it came with, and they wore just fine with regular rotations (roughly 7,500 miles).

Put some Hankooks on it and they are also wearing very evenly.

This car has been great to us, incredible value for what you get. I have done all the 30K recommended maintenance though. That's about 600 a pop, sometimes you can get a $50 coupon by email which comes in handy.

I've driven an Outback Legacy since '99.

It's got 200,000 on it right now and the interior is still darn near perfect. Just did the timing belt and rear main seal. (Subaru's were at one point somewhat problematic with having that seal wear quicker that it should, but I believe that's been addressed.)

The left rear wheel assembly came apart on a trip to Colorado two years ago. Shit could have been pretty bad, but I managed to limp into Fort Collins. That wasn't fun.

Other than that, I've had to replace a headlight, a tail light and the drivers side door lock tumbler.

The 175 horsepower mentioned is a little misleading. The engine is torque'y as hell and I've never really had a problem with a lack of power. Good gas mileage for an AWD, where I get about 26-27 in regular driving and 30 on long distance highway runs.

I did run into a problem with the AWD once where I drove a little too far into the scree on a ACOE reservoir fishing one time and I lost traction completely as none of the tires got any bite in the loose gravel. (The AWD apparently couldn't transfer power to the wheels because none had any grip/traction.) Had to get a tow out from a couple of guys in a pickup.

When I bought it I swore I would get 20 years out of it and it's looking like I should.

Considering all the shit that can/will/does go wrong on a car, my Outback has been okay. I would definitely consider buying a Subaru again.
