Stupid O-Line Idea?

OK, so obviously this idea would never come to fruition. But here goes, this is the spawn of my thinking far too long about fixing what woes the Chiefs O-Line.

Move Shields to RT and plug in Welbourne at RG.
As I remember Shields has filled in at tackle before and did a great job. I would think that by doing this, you are getting the top 5 players along the line on the field at the same time, you are readying Welbourne to take Shields' spot next year, and you may be really improving a huge weakness.

Just idle thinking time that got caught up... thoughts?

Shields has pretty much stunk at G this year, I doubt he could handle T.

But would he, even stinking, be better than Black?

Face it, you're not going to fix things now by changing people around on the line. Black needs to groom his experience. Sampson needs to play. Roaf needs to be the dominant player his is. And Shields needs to stay where he is.

It's not a good time now to be moving guys around....They've gelled before, and they will gel again. They know what they need to do to win

I'm pretty sure Welbourne would play better than Shields is at RG, but we need some consistancy, at least, on this line.

That would be a great idea, if Shields wasn't collecting a check 1 more year before retiring.

This idea of moving a player to another position to cover a weakness is just crazy. Next you will be suggesting that the corners flop positions to match up with the best opposing receiver.

Seriously, I agree that Shields probably isn't capable of making a huge difference at this point.

Last year I thought that the move of Shields to tackle would have been a good move, but this year nobody up there is really getting the job done consistently.

I kinda like this idea. Welbourn is probably going to be the starter at RG next year anyway.

It's sad but apparently true.

I've never seen Shields get consistently whipped by mediocre d-lineman.

Yes, stupid idea.

Maybe a few years ago it was possible for Shields to play tackle. Now, with his broke down back? Wouldn't be pretty.

I think Shields knew his condition better than what he let on to the coaching staff. It was desperation by coaches if you remember.

He's definitely not 100%.
