Adrian Peterson Indicted

Reckless/negligent injury to a child. Indicted.

This league may not be able to sustain too many more of these black eyes. It's a mess.

But I would encourage you to do a bit more recent research on spanking, not just for the sake of the child but for you the parent as well. The research is out there on how ineffective spanking is as a conditioning tool in parenting. It might generate short term results, but it doesn't make a child more obedient or less likely to break the rules. In fact, spanking is largely counterproductive to those goals.

Just my advice. Not telling you how to be a parent. Just encouraging you to look further on the subject if you haven't already.
Oh absolutely

Both my wife and I have graduate level educations...

We discussed at length all options....before we had kids even...(we waited 7 years to have kids)

We decided that we would do some corporal punishments in a few limited instances, if "the message" wasn't getting through.....

We have probably spanked him maybe 5 times in his life...its not pleasant but I think some lessons 'sink in' more with the fear of pain...

When you have kids, get back to me on how you decided to handle biting, and running out into the street, and doing all sorts of dangerous things......I am all ears and hopefully going to have more kids so I am open to advice from veterans....but no offense If I don't pay much heed to a rookie 8-)

I got ****ing OWNED when I was a kid. I had a miserable piece of shit step father who thought that 'thumping' was the appropriate punishment for.. well basically anything. 'Thumping' is making a fist, and extruding your middle finger to make a little meat spike, then proceed to slam it forcefully against your little childs skull. It never left marks, and mostly used when mom wasn't around.

That shit is child abuse, and so is beating your kid with a switch until there are marks left all over him.

But spanking them in the ass with an open palm? I don't think so, comparable to REAL child abuse, its a gust of wind.

So just to be clear, what you're saying is anecdotal evidence trumps scientific evidence correct?

No it isn't. If you are wondering if you are hitting your kid hard enough, just go ahead and stab yourself in the face. If you think you might be hitting too hard, then how about just...stopping?

Yeah I had a couple piece of shit step dads too. My dad ended up whooping two of em when he found out what they did. Thumping was ones favorite.

I ended up whopping the other as an 8th grader and left that house and went to dads to stay. The tough guy pulled a fuking gun on me after getting his ass kicked. Luckily my pops was already on the way and the gun went away real quick. And agree about spankings, open hand on the butt. My 9year old has gotten less than 20 in her whole life, last one s a couple weeks ago and an burn
After she came and told me she deserved it...

She's a good kid.

How about have some kids before you speak such stupidity.

I actually asked what the difference was between hitting and spanking..(not how hard to 'hit')...you cant even read...but

Your opinion on this matter is about like your opinion on having sex or eating pussy...

You have ZERO ****ing experience in the matter.......

When you have kids you question every aspect of it...that doesn't mean you don't do certain things...In life there are grey areas and not always a right or wrong...and every situation is different.

I bet if your old man had kicked your ass a few times you wouldnt be such a pussy....LOL (jk)

End of my step dads stay was when at 14, my sister had heated up and left a bowl of tomato soup in the microwave. He ordered me to clean it up, I told him to get bent. He pushed my head in burning hot soup the soup and I snagged a knife from the butcher block, got him backed out of the house, locked the door, and my mom called the cops. That was of course after years of mental, emotional, and physical abuse of all kinds.

unfortunately my 'real' dad had only seen me maybe twice in my life, so I didn't have the luxury of falling back on him.

**** both of those guys.

And now that I think a little harder on this. **** AP too.

Exactly. Even if psychological research had generated some data that said, "X is the best way to discipline children," I wouldn't propose to know anything about implementing it as a parent, only that I read about it in a bunch of journals. And as it is, even if I had kids and used a discipline technique that was the most perfect thing ever, all parents are different, as are all children. Dr. Buttschnitzel's book on parenting is probably well-recommended, but it's always going to have legitimate criticisms from people who either claim it to be ineffective through experience or who claim to have found a strikingly different technique that works better.
