2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Tigers are struggling. Maybe Prince Fielder can get sliced open like a tantan by hosmer to keep Danny Duffy's arm warm.

Yost sees long-term benefit from losing streak
By Zack Meisel / MLB.com | 04/26/12 12:59 PM ET

Hosmer appears to have turned a corner
Duffy scratched from Friday's start
Worth noting

CLEVELAND -- Manager Ned Yost is no stranger to lengthy stretches of losing.

Yost has taken what he learned from prior experiences and applied it to his Royals crew, which broke out of a 12-game skid with a win on Wednesday. Those experiences allowed Yost to remain positive and relaxed during such a trying time.

"This was a good experience for them, just as it was a good experience for me back then," Yost said. "I can draw back on it. These young kids have never been through this before, and it's going to be an experience that they'll be able to draw back on later."

In 2003, Yost's Brewers lost eight of 11 before rolling off 10 consecutive victories. In 2004 they lost 12 consecutive games at the end of August before winning four of their next five. The following season, Milwaukee lost eight in a row and 10 of 12 before rattling off seven straight wins.
Yost hopes his club has learned from the last two weeks of losing and can use that knowledge to forge a comparable winning streak.

"That's life with young clubs," he said. "You have to be able to understand that, battle through it and stay positive, because you know when they break out, your fortunes are going to turn dramatically."

So the experience of losing 12 in a row is good for a team because it teaches them how to deal with that kind of adversity... which IF true I assume the lesson would be how to avoid it happening again....... yet Yosts Brewers teams didn't learn enough from it NOT to do it again. That is some ****ing genius bullshit right there.

Yes, Ned. It's great for our young team with questionable pitching to go out and lose in every conceivable idiotic fashion you can imagine through an entire season before April comes to a close. Might as well get all that out of the way early, I guess.
