Yeah. There's something about the way Missouri plays that corrupts his prediction regarding the Tigers.

Not sure if it is related to the spread offense, which is able to plug and play guys in at WR and RB and even QB a little more easily than a more traditional offense. But that makes a little sense to me.

Steele has predicted HUGE drop offs for Mizzou after losing Daniel, then again after losing Gabbert. He also didn't see much improvement coming for 2010, despite the Tigers returning basically everything except for Danario Alexander.

Overall, it wasn't Missouri's stellar play that earned them a spot to be in the SEC, it was outside factors centered around the conference network goals that got Missouri in. You're gonna have to prove it before people are going to start recognizing you as an "SEC team" in the light you tried to associate it as.
He said they are an SEC team; they are. I'm not sure with whom you are arguing.

Oh, come on Pitt, you're better than that, read the context of what he was saying. He said that 10 years was a good measure of a program, especially compared to what they were before, and now the merits of that 10 years has made them an SEC team. There are two implications in that: First, people always assume the top of the SEC when they throw around a genreic statement like that, they aren't talking about Vanderbilt. Second, it implies that MU's football play is what got them the invite. If A&M doesn't go, MU gets no invite. If Missouri doesn't have St. Louis and KC, WVU get that invite.

Vanderbilt is clearly an SEC team. As are Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. What am I assuming here?

Jusy subtlty, I guess, never mind. You guys can go back to circle jerking yourselves on the "accomplishments of the program".

Do you not consider those to be SEC teams? Do you consider Kansas to be a Big 12 team?

Missouri and A&M are good football programs. They will likely be middle of the pack teams in the SEC. Your argument that they don't belong there holds no water.

It's easy to convince yourself that you state having no cities is to blame, but Nebraska is in a major conference now too. If your team had a respectable football program they may have had options even without a major market.

Winning a conference game every year can tend to go to a school's head.

I think you're reading too much into that...

I read it as ... dark-age era Missouri football would have never received an invite to the SEC because the football was so atrocious.

A respectable football program definitely made Mizzou more attractive to the SEC than it otherwise would have been.

Do you really think that Mizzou would have gotten an invite to the SEC if we were at the same level we were twenty years ago?

Do you really think that WVU and TCU were invited to the Big XII because the conference wanted to lock down West Virginia and Texas markets?

Nebraska had the opportunity to move conferences without major television areas because their football program is a national brand, not just regional.

Funny that no Nebraska cities are on that list, yet the Big 10 took them. Nothing in West Virginia nor Idaho, either. Markets matter, but there are plenty of schools with crappy teams in states with big metro areas that aren't being offered upgrades.

West Virginia is a big national brand, I guess. I see Mountaineer fans everywhere I travel.
