Former Chief Jeff Webb accused of insurance scam
Jeff Webb, a receiver who spent three seasons with the Chiefs a decade ago, faces felony charges in California.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the California Department of Insurance announced that Webb has been accused of staging four automobile crashes and collecting $70,000 in fraudulent insurance payments.

Arrested on June 28, Webb allegedly was the ringleader in a scam involving eight others. They alleged crashed cars into poles or curbs deliberately, for the insurance money.

The incidents resulted in minor damage to the vehicles, but Webb and others allegedly sought medical assistance for phantom injuries.

In addition to the $70,000 paid to Webb, another $70,000 was due to be paid to him before the insurance companies flagged the situation with the Department of Insurance.

The specific charges include four counts of causing an accident for the purpose of presenting a false claim, two counts of preparing written materials with the intent of support a false claim, and one count of filing a false claim with an insurer.

Webb appeared in 31 regular season games with the Chiefs from 2006 through 2008, catching 36 passes for 382 yards and one touchdown.

I did some digging and was able to find a picture of three others involved with this brilliant scheme with Webb.
