Iowa City CP'ers

Tell me of your city. I'm going to be working up here for the foreseeable future and I'd appreciate any of the usual info. Restaurants, things to do, mechanics, doctors, so on and so forth you'd recommend. I'm 26 and have a fiancee if that gives you any cues on stuff to do.

I know U of Iowa is here and the city isn't that big. I'm guessing most everything centers around the University. I know the weather sucked here today so that's no different than KC. Are the winters even more awful? I'm presuming they are. That's about all I got right now.

Just help a guy out.

Well, there are many people who get heaven and Iowa confused. And there are also many people who don't believe heaven is a real place. Therefore it's a given that many people don't think Iowa exists.

If Iowa doesn't exist, rico doesn't exist either, loochy-mama. My long-winded posts have all been a figment of your imagination. Your one messed up little monkey, loochy...you need to get some help, homeslice.

Its no doubt we are snobs about it.

Rico, DBQ is a very cool town. I married a chick from there, (divorced now), so we spent a lot of time with the DBQ experience. I esp like the Busted Lift.
Eh, Waterloo isn't really as bad as it's cracked up to be, west of the river anyway. But that line is rapidly moving to west of Ansborough, unfortunately.

You know the Busted Lift!?!?!?! NICE! That is a very "chill" place, which is all good, IMO. That was the first place that I ever tried an Irish car bomb.

I'm not the connoisseur of Waterloo by any means, but it just seems like any time I've ever spent there, I've always ended up pissed or distraught about something. Whether it's a rude citizen, waiting in traffic for an hour and being late to an event as a result, Young Arena being an awful venue for wrestling events, people being hostile at bars, cockroaches in a hotel room, etc. Waterloo to me has always been one of those, "there's always SOMETHING that ends up pissing me off when I'm there" types of places.

Oyama is good for sushi, still a good time at The Vine and Mondos, and Orchard Green, Joseph's and Linn Street Cafe for fine dining. Jimmy Jacks Rib Shack for decent BBQ.

High demand in a campus town. They can rent them out to students for 4-5-6 hundy per bed. The rich kids daddies pay a lot more than that foot a nice place.

That's b/c they're full of farm kids and kids from small farming communities.

I've seen old maps that confirm this. There is no Iowa on those maps. It only shows up in the 1840s when the U.S. was posturing against Mexico and trying to look big.

As an aside, I'm going to be in Iowa City early next month. I'm not sure I'll be able to get away, but if there's a get-together at some point I'm in.
