AT&T internet info

Need a little help here guys.

Our new house we bought is apparently in the boonies because I can’t get internet hooked up. It’s 1 mile from the Springfield City limits but for whatever reason it’s been a pain.

However, I have found out that AT&T is in the vicinity as there’s fiber optic buried down at the end of my driveway and running under it. So i just have to get them to dig it up to the house.

So my question to CP is who do I get in touch with to do that? I can’t really find anything on AT&T.

Anyone help?

We’ve never run fiber for one building, unless it’s a business. We run the flexnap fiber though a neighborhood/subdivision so that it will be ready for the entire area, not just one home. It’s possible that he could have had a 24 fiber buried or placed into a conduit where it ties into a manhole or aerial splice on a pole nearby, but he would have had to pay through the nose for it. I honestly have never seen it done in a residential area and I don’t even know if that’s something you would have to get a permit for.

I don't have much to tell you but at my house I have AT&T. The absolute fastest I can get is 50 mbps, which is kind of shitty. But I have no idea why I would really need more than 50 mbps. As long as I can stream 4k video, that is all I need.

My dad lives in the country though and he has to get Century Link, can't get more than 1.5 mpbs and it ****ing sucks. AT&T has told them for about 7 years they were close to providing service for his area, but still no dice. They don't even really live in the deep country either, it's very strange.

A little off topic, but Would like to hear opinions of those in KC and Johnson County to see what the cheapest stand alone internet is at about 40mbps+. I'm going to cut the cord and go to Direct TV now. They finally have enough channels that I think I'll be happy.

All I can find is
Spectrum
ATT
Google Fiber

They all seem to be around $45-$55.

One thing to remember about sales agents is they work on commission and if they aren't selling you something, they arr hardly making any money.

Use that to your advantage. Call up one company and tell them the other company offered some smoking hot deal and just ****ing make something up. If they can get away with offering it at all, they absolutely will.

If they don't fall for it, just move on to the next company or try again later with another agent/supervisor.

Fiber is relatively cheap, so even if the fiber in front of your house carries long haul traffic, it's probably not just a few strands. You can't just get them to dig it up and run it to your house. The cost is in the electronics and those costs are significant. You say your neighbor had a network installed specifically for him. I'll tell you that's highly unlikely unless he's a person of great importance or paid those massive costs out of his own pocket. Most likely that network was laid out in anticipation of further development in the area. The right-of -way in your development may not be secured. AT&T Internet and AT&T local service are separate entities and are not regulated the same way. The internet people must contract with the local company for service. Finally, AT&T is NOT a good company at the top. Ask any employee, active or retired, and they will tell you so. Outsourcing and failure to provide adequate training to employees has driven the best communications company in the world to one that is just average today.
Your best bet is to contact your PUC and ask them for help. Most likely they won't be able to leverage the internet company into providing you service, but they might be able to provide you with a name and number of someone not in Pakistan that can give you a straight answer. The other thought I have is to contact your local media and ask them for help. Randall Stephenson, the CEO of AT&T, doesn't like media attention.
I've been engineering in telco for a little over 12 years now. Your post is spot on. The ISP I have been working for the last few years has a 144 count backbone cable running on poles in my back yard. I've been trying to get our local splice team to pull a little slack and trench a single fiber to my house. Already have one of our customer prem switches and bi-directional optics ready.. Can't wait to get off FIOS.

They need 50’ on each end of the 144 fiber to splice with. Unless there’s a 100’ slack loop nearby, they are going to need to place an additional 100’ of 144 and possibly splice the cable in two spots.

Burn your house down and move to a better neighborhood.

I don't think you're going to get ATT to bury fiber over that much distance to service just you.

Update: my wife got a tech scheduled to come out and look at possibly brining it to us.

We’ll see what happens
