If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Discuss...

If the Dolphins were not a laughing stock as it is. Taking Matt Ryan #1 in 2008 instead of a LT they are going to let go in FA because he is already done. Then drafting a QB who is now the QB of the Jags in the second round? Oh the embarrassment...

No I just don't think Geno is the greatest QB prospect of all-time. Chiefsplanet is the only place on the internet where Geno is just as good as RG3 and better than 95% of QB prospects in the last 10 years.

You have said this multiple times. Who thinks Geno is RG3? They don't play the same style and nobody implies they do.

I'll betcha both Geno and Wilson are successful NFL QBs. Each of their teams in three years will confidently claim them as their starters.

Hell, I'm also pretty positive that Barkley will find success in the league.

Glennon is the only QB I can see busting hardcore if he gets drafted in the first round.

From what I've seen of Geno he has all the skills to be a true NFL QB.

Two unknowns:

Will he cassel his pants facing an NFL defense.
Is he game enough to do whatever it takes to overcome any deficiency that is exposed playing in the NFL.

If you think about it those two questions could be asked for any rookie NFL QB.

I've crunched the numbers and after much consideration, where this team is, think Dorsey and Reid will pick him in the 1st round and take that chance.

Yes. If you think the draft value chart is meaningful.
Still...I'd take him without blinking.

No one will give a shit about the draft value you saved three years later when Smith's a Pro Bowler and you're still looking for a quarterback.

I don't remember the exact questions about Stafford coming out, and I was really high on him.

However, the consensus was that, had Bradford come out, he would have been selected first, not Stafford.

Do you believe that Bradford was a better prospect than Smith?

I think people are reading far too much into Dorsey's comments.

When did he say positional need in no way influences his draft philosophy?
How are we to know that Geno Smith isn't already at the top of Dorsey's board?

We're still more than 3 months out.
Geno's stock will rise with either the Combine or WVU's Pro Day.

Looking at those drafts, the only #1 overall QBs that I would consider better prospects would be Carson Palmer and Eli Manning, other than Luck.

From where I sit, and to the best of my recollection, there are only 5 or 6 QBs that actually had fewer question marks in these drafts.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-sh...4315--nfl.html
Here is what I don't get MilkMan. IMO the success of last years draft class in my mind would only make teams want to draft QBs and play them early on in there careers. IMO success from rookie QBs is a good thing for pro football and that more QBs comming out of college can find success. Cam Newton had a hell of a rookie year and this year followed up with that having 3 QBs going to the playoffs.

So why is this so hard to grasp that Geno Smith is worth the #1 pick? When rookie QBs have success that should open the door for future prospects to be taken early in the draft. I am dumbfounded that these people don't consider Geno Smith a top prospect worth takeing #1. I am not saying he is a run QB either but a pocket passer that can extend plays like LUCK can even though he is not Andrew Luck so I'm not saying he is. Geno Smith can make a name for himself in the pros.

If I remember right it was footwork/mechanics, pocket awareness and mobility, decision making, touch on short throws. He was no sure thing, but with an arm like his he was going very high regardless.

I think I remember some people here arguing against him pretty strongly at the time. How he wasn't "worth the #1 pick". That line that seems to be recycled annually here.
