Your gas bill

How much is it in the summer?

Mine is $52. Think the fixed costs just to have gas is like $28. How am I using really any gas at all? Electric stove. Maybe water heater?

Don't have a gas bill. Natural gas doesn't come out here and I'm not about to do propane. My electric bill runs around $100/ month when the heat or A/C isn't running. Peaks at about $200 in January. Average for the year is about $150.

Yep, turn the water heater down where it isn't so hot is how you can save money.

I have two water heaters, one for a Jacuzzi

I did a study about this a few years back. It's cheaper to run your furnace on ground-up diamonds than propane.

Typically $30 a month or so. Gets way up there in the winter with gas heat. Don't recall off hand but I nearly stroke out for a couple of months when it arrives.

Our air conditioner has been running its guts out for the last couple of months. Bill was a solid 300 for this last month. 2400 square feet to cool with all original windows in a 60 year old house is not fun.

Need to take the plunge and sell my leg to get all these bastards replaced.

I obviously don't know how many windows you have, nor the size of each, but my electricity bill dropped dramatically after replacing crappy single pane windows with dual pane Jeld Wen windows.

It made a huge difference in the winter, too.

Yeah I know that would make an enormous difference. Night and day. Altogether 19 windows to swap out. Four of those are small. 13 standard size and two oversized.

I don't imagine I'll be getting off too cheap. Really just have to determine how long we plan on staying here and if it's something I want to address or pass off to the next owner.

Just FWIW, my biggest windows, 8' x 6', didn't cost more than $400.00. The smaller windows were quite a bit less.

I've been in my home for 14 years and plan to stay at least another 12, so it might be a little different than your sitch.

Anyway, I thought I'd share. Good luck!

That doesn't seem too bad. My biggest windows are 6x4 or something funky. Appreciate the info. I'll sort it out at some point.

Just got my gas bill today. The "cost of gas" is $2.60 (KS Gas Service does a great job of hedging prices). The service charge is $16.50. This is the cost to cover all the NG piping maintenance and meters and pay employees. There are a couple of fees and taxes. Total bill $23.44. Not bad. I have a NG water heater and grill (that I use A LOT!).

In the summer it's usually between $30 and $35. In winter it's usually around $200 to $250. We have gas heat. Electric bill for AC is worse in the summer. In Independence our water and power are on the same bill. In summer when it's as hot as it is now, its usually about $350 for the month. My house is old (1930's) and when I replaced my windows, I saved about 20 to 25% on gas and electric. Still, stuff gets pricey.
