I ****ing hate cigarettes

My mom calls me about a week ago and pretty much goes off on me because she hasn't seen my kids since March. I tried to explain to her like I have a hundred times before that we dont come around much because I can't stand her cigarette smoke infested house. She acts like Im crazy and honestly believes its not that harmful. She lives in a small two bedroom house, refuses to open the windows, and the smoke is so thick you can see clouds of it all over the house. If I ask her to air it out before we come and not smoke while we're there she pulls the old "when you pay my rent I'll stop smoking" card.

As a kid growing up I had a lot of health problems that pretty much ended about a year after I moved out on my own. I remember being embarrassed at church because my clothes smelled like I had just walked out of a bar all the time. My friends used to give me shit about it too and nobody ever wanted to come over because of it...that's how bad it was/is.

So feeling bad I took the kids today and stayed for an hour (couldn't handle anymore). Now I have the worst migraine Ive ever had and I can still taste the shit in the back of my throat. I love my mom to death, and my kids love their grandma but I don't know what else to do. How do you convince a 72 year old woman set in her ways and that's been smoking since she was a teenager the shit is toxic to us? I dont want to miss out on her last years, and I dont want her to miss her grand kids growing up but I also cant handle her disgusting habit.

Take a picnic lunch over and eat outside. Take some outdoor toys, too. Kids can run in and use the bathroom, but spend most of their time outside. Don't know how old your kids are, but I can't imagine spending hours cooped up in a small old person house is much fun anyway.

I guess I'm a lucky one. If my mom wants my daughter to come over, she'll stop smoking inside several hours in advance and only smoke outside when we are visiting.

My MIL babysits a lot and quit smoking so her clothes wouldn't smell.

This. Smoke free from Feb 8 2013 and took two months to quit hacking up a lung but today I feel so much better. Put on some pounds and my pants don't fit but I feel good. I can smell people who smoke 15 ft away and it's discuthing.

The no smoking laws in bars is great now. do you have any idea what kind of a pain in the ass it is to get a smoke smelling suit aired out? dry cleaning doesn't get the stink out. I smoked for 20 years and quit 13 years ago, best thing I ever did. and with the cost of health insurance nowadays you're ****ing nuts if you smoke.

I would keep pestering your mom to quit smoking until she either doesn't want you to come over there anymore or she quits. don't just do it for yourself and your kids, do it for her too.

I got the Ecto Cooler flavored ecig liquid. It's...ok. Not what I'd hoped. Though I've read online that people do something called "steeping" their liquid by leaving the cap off and keeping it in a dark, cool place for several days and keeping it shook up. Not sure if that enhances the flavor but I'm gonna try it. I tried several flavors at the vapor shop and there were just too many to choose from. I'd probably better serve myself by just going with a tobacco flavor. The waffle flavor was pretty good.

Tell her you're happy to go out for dinner or she can come to your house but until she quits smoking around the g-kids they aren't coming over.

If the problem is similar, that must mean that her grandchildren have Big Macs shoved forcibly down their throats whenever they set foot in her house. That would really suck.
