*.* 2013 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2013! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

**From the 2012 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I also ride a mountain bike, take a lot of hills, and trails, some on road stuff. Its an intense fun work out. Put the ipod in, and go.

I just finished 29.23 miles in 2:02 and it was only 1400 calories on my bike comp and 1900 calories using an online calculator which incorporates weight. The only way I could come up with 2200 calories for a 113 minute ride was to set the rider's rate at 325 pounds.

Started a variation of SS today (the one that replaces the Powerclean w/ chinups on Monday and pullups on Friday), mainly because I don't know proper form on that maneuver and I don't want to make an ass of myself at the gym.

First time I've lifted since January and I would say I've lost about 33% strength. I was benching 2 x 55 lbs dumbbells and squatting ~170 lbs before my injury.

Today I did 115 lbs on the bench, probably could have done 135 but I played it safe, and I squatted 135 lbs. I definitely couldn't have finished my reps if I put more on the squat bar.

Anyways, does anyone know what 2 x 55 dumbbells equates to doing a barbell bench press?

There is no equation. Being good at one does not translate to the other.

Want a bigger bench...bench more.

Wanna press bigger dumbbells...use bigger dumbbells.

Oh, well I only used dumbbells because at the old Chuze I worked out at the only way to bench with a bar was the Smith machine and the lowest it could go wasn't low enough for me and it didn't feel natural benching on the Smith.

Also deadlifts were prohibited at Chuze.

I signed up at a real gym that will better suit my needs.

2200 calories? Was it a tricycle?

That gym sounds like a total joke.

Good move.

Only do it if you make a promise to yourself to post again in six months, no matter the results. That's the kind of accountability that worked for me.

Until about 5 months ago, I never even had sex without a shirt on. I've got the worst farmers tan because I'm so conscious about taking off my shirt....because of that I never took a shirtless before pic before I lost all the weight.

I wasn't going to let that happen again....

------

This morning I woke up disgusted with myself. I've wasted the last 6 months sitting on my ass when I could be somewhere now. It sucks being congratulated every damn day for losing weight and still being fat. I barely have a lick of fat on my legs, but it all rests in my belly, chest, and arms.

Edit: And one last ****ing thing...it's consistently been the women in my life saying I have an unhealthy obsession with being healthy that has also sort of stunted my growth. I am obsessed, I need to tell them to deal with that shit instead of letting it make me feel like I should chill out on stuff. Back on my diet, back lifting. In 6 months I'm going to be proud as hell of myself and I'm not gonna let any ****ing chick tell me what to do with my body.

Congrats on the weight loss bud. If your goal is more physique oriented than just strength, I'd opt out of a 3 day routine like SS and look for something more physique oriented (ie not leaving out muscle groups).

I think you were big on keto too, correct? Is that your diet plan going forward now that you've lost the weight?
