Recommend an Air Compressor

My Craftsman suddenly developed armature problems and i don't think it's too cheap to have fixed.

It was a good one and is no longer manufactured. I want to buy a new (or reconditioned) one within $120-$180 that's reasonably comparable to mine.

Here are the specs:

2HP
150 PSI peak
SCFM: 3.7@40PSI/2.6@90PSI
Permanent Lube
6 gal tank

I'm looking at these;

- Bostitch CAP2000P-OF-R (recon.) $120
(http://www.cpobostitch.com/factory-r...cgid=#prReview)

- WEN 6-gallon 2HP $125
(http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden...2/product.html)

- Hitachi EC510 (from local Lowes) $150 +/- (forgot exact)

I haven't found anything reasonable in Craftsman or DeWalt.

What do you recommend? I need to make a quick decision. it's holding up the final touches of my long ongoing remod.

I have a pneumatic caulk gun. I don't break it out for any old job but it's nice to have for subfloors.

Holy shit. I always knew you liked caulk (cock)

We have a 1" impact that will rip your arm off, and an airhammer that is pretty ridiculous, but no application tools. I have no idea what would happen if you put 180 psi to grease or caulk.

I'm going to first state, had I know some of you were looking for air compressors, I would have bought a ton of them at auction and sold them to you. There were about 85 new and used air compressors in my last auction on the 26th from pancakes all the way up to 3 phase 180 gallon compressors lol.

This is a pretty big deal for anyone looking for a compressor. If you need one, don't affix yourself to a pricing ceiling or you'll end up with something you can't really use or something that will pigeonhole you into having no flexibility with what you use it for. Every time I go shop for one, I pickup one that will run about 25-50 PSI more than my most poweful tool, with about 30% more CFM than my most needy tool.

I’ve been looking for a good 2 cylinder 220V oil filled compressor to take it’s place but they aren’t exactly giving those things away.
Personally, I want one of those quiet, old school belt driven ones and an 80 gallon tank (minimum) but the people who have them (the good ones) know they are worth their weight in gold.

Most people don't know how to properly take care of their air compressors and maintain them, so they go out pretty fast, also, a lot of the higher end companies like Ingersoll Rand, Craftsman, etc. treat the inside of their tanks to prevent rust, CH does not. I religiously drain my tanks every day, change the filters religiously, and after about 18 months, you'll start seeing "rust water" coming out the bottom of them when you drain them. It won't be much, unless you never drain the tank, but you'll see it start to happen, and when that happens, your tank starts to degrade and that just seems dangerous to me.

As with many things, I'm looking in the used market.

I'd love the relative quietness of an oil filled model.

Good info in this thread.

Screw a bunch of that noise. I'd have gone powered a long time ago, but I'm lazy like that. I've got a couple of impacts, 1/2 & 3/8" and an air ratchet too.

Exactly why I don't have one yet either.
