One of the (gossip) comments from the LJW - some guy's roommate was a manager on the team, and commented that Combs work ethic was less than stellar. The term "Lazy POS" stood out in the description. We're better off without him.

Usually when one is granted such a quick and easy release as it seems this was it's because no one wants the guy around and they can't wait to get rid of him.

But if what he did this offseason in helping get the players excited worked then I'd say we got what we needed out of him. The D Line looks much better than last year and I think one of the biggest reasons is that the guys were a little threatened by having all these "new players" being brought in.

SM West football player Andre Maloney suffers stroke during game

Shawnee Mission West senior Andre Maloney is in intensive care after suffering a stroke during a football game at SM South District Stadium, his family said in a statement Friday.

Maloney was taken off the field Thursday night in an ambulance after he became disoriented on the sideline during SM West’s 37-34 loss against Leavenworth.
The ambulance transported Maloney to the emergency room of Overland Park Regional Medical Center before he was transferred to Research Medical Center, where he remained in the neurological intensive care unit Friday.


“While the family greatly appreciates the concern, thoughts and prayers of family, friends and the community, they ask that the public and media respect their privacy at this time,” the family’s statement read.


After Maloney scored on a 63-yard touchdown reception Thursday, SM West football coach Tim Callaghan said Maloney grabbed a bottle of water and “got dizzy and lost functioning.” He never lost consciousness, Callaghan said.


“He was pretty much untouched, so I don’t think anybody would say it happened on the play,” SM West athletic director Don Perkins said.


Maloney, who starts at wide receiver and cornerback, verbally committed in July to play football at Kansas. Last winter he helped SM West win the school’s first state championship since 1985.
