****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

Kind of what I was thinking.

Auburn is just flat-out awesome on offense. Shit happens.

Steckel was pantsed last night. Plain and simple. He's a mediocre defensive coordinator at best.

However, the talent in the defensive backfield was exposed just as much last night. We need more players back there.

It's only year two and we were in the conference title game. We should really just relax

But damn, Steckel needs to go.
Yeah, but they won't do anything about him. Reacting quickly to the obvious isn't a quality MIZZOU's leadership demands.

Meh, at least they tried to jam the A gaps in the 2nd half.

Either way, as usual, their come-back will be that we don't know what we're talking about, just link the sun rises in the east - we're crazy, it rises in the south!

Last night was tough. Actually made more bearable by the South Carolina loss, if that makes sense (because at least they weren't set up to play for it all).

Auburn is just better than Mizzou. I don't think the defensive scheme was great and didn't help matters. But Auburn's offense has carved up everybody of late. It's not like they hadn't been doing that to a lot of teams.

Ultimately, Mizzou didn't have the athleticism or speed at LB and S to match up against that offense.

A Cotton Bowl matchup against Oklahoma State is pretty attractive to me. We will get a lot of fans to Dallas, that bowl is going to be a major bowl against starting next year, and it's probably the best matchup outside of the BCS games. Also has a great time slot.

I'd be fine with an upgrade over Steckel, but I do think he did a pretty great job overall this season. The gameplan and execution against Texas A&M last week was as perfect and sharp as this week's was flawed and blunt.

Bigger factor is giving him better players in the back 7 to work with. More speed and athleticism in those areas are key.

Guys like Jimmie Hunt - who will start as a senior, the first time he gets MAJOR PT at WR - need to be turned into Ss in the future.

Mizzou's ranked #41, #31 , #48 and #21. We are not stocked.

Did we get out coached at times...yes. But the real difference is talent...they have more and they won. The interior D Line and Linbackers were a huge problem last night and that shows in the recruiting classes.

Bottom line is we have to get better athletes and we will most likely get better results.
No the difference was coaching. No other defense on Auburn's schedule was gashed the way we were save for their 1-aa opponent. Powerhouses such as Washington State, Arkansas State, Mississippi State and Ole Miss fared better.

Losing a football game to a team of Auburn's caliber is nothing to be ashamed of. Looking defensively like you literally don't have a clue & are holistically incapable of slowing down let alone stopping the opposition is unacceptable.

Evaluating coaches and players is pretty straightforward. Either they are a benefit, neutral, or a hindrance.

Here is the question to ask yourself: is Dave Steckel a good enough DC for this team to win the SEC and a national title? If not, he should be replaced. This shit is far simpler than it seems. Was it presumptuous to want the heads of Eberflus or Yost?

Missouri did not have the athletes in the back seven, but they were also woefully unprepared for that offense. That wasn't 2008 Oklahoma with nine pros on the offense and us having two pros on D. The talent disparity was smaller, the scheme simpler, and the results worse.

I'm glad that you prefer games like UConn-Butler, but one of the better things about sports is that it's close to a meritocracy. NCAA basketball is a terrible product with a dramatic tournament that rewards fluky bullshit.

Auburn did not annihilate Alabama. They scored 28 points, fourteen fewer than aTm. We gave up more than twice as many points and almost twice as many yards.

If we gave up 77 to a healthy Manziel, would people absolve Steckel of blame? JF actually did annihilate Bama's D.

Anyone D-coordinator that has a team rush for 500 yd needs to be fired. No excuse for it. I didn't even think that was possible.

What a crazy game. Only reason Auburn couldn't get any more rushing yards was because the field is only 100 yards long.

Mizzou must be set up to stop the pass instead. Great effort but when the other team's RB has 46 carries for 6000 yards, you deserve to lose.
