Official 2012-2013 NBA Thread

Looks like James Harden has been To the Rockets for Jeremey Lamb, Kevin Martin and future picks. Plus... this is a general NBA thread.

@darrenrovell Some person paid $275 on StubHub to get into the Spurs game tonight to see LeBron and Wade. Face value of that ticket is $9!

I dunno, but I don't think the Spurs give the heat trouble. Put it this way.

Spurs O is legit, Heat O is legit
Heat D is ridiculous, Spurs D is suspect

The hallmark of those great spurs teams was suffocating D. Now, they're just another version of the Steve Nash era suns to me.

It was the right thing to do for the NBA. I wouldn't shed a tear if he fined Spo for this too.

Pop's actions were like a manager blowing off a meeting with the company's most important client, so that his workers could get a head start on their end of year reviews.

The problem is that now Stern has created a ridiculous blurred line between when a coach is doing this because a player has a legit injury, and when he's doing it to give his players just a little more rest. I get that Pop didn't help his matter by being so transparent about why his players were sitting.

But to the Spo example. What if LeBron really was hurt and he was forced to play then pulled his hammy in the game? What if Wade was at 80% -- what is the acceptable "percentage" for a coach to sit his player? What if Pop decided he was going to play all his guys, but the starters would only play 5 minutes. Is that acceptable?

This is what happens when the commish oversteps his boundaries. Now he sets a standard and people are always going to complain about why one team got punished and another did not.

Stern thinking that he has the authority to tell coaches who to play and whether or not to sit players due to injuries is complete bullshit. How much more stupid would Stern have looked had the Spurs held on the lead in the last minute and beat Miami with their stars on the bench.

The point of the NBA is to entertain fans.

Putting all that together - Pop (manager) did his players a solid (head start on their year end reviews, yay!) but did it by blowing off a the aforementioned huuuge game (meeting with the company's main client).

Being fresh for the postseason is nice and all, but kinda pointless if nobody's watching it.

I agree, but I don't see what choice he had. Pop hurt the NBA product - if he doesn't get punished there, other coaches will do the same thing. Ultimately it hurts the fan's confidence that they're going to get a high quality product when they buy expensive tickets.

The 5 minute deal actually is acceptable - though shitty. At the very least, you give the fans the opportunity to voice their displeasure. Really, though, if you're pop, you sit your core players the night before against Orlando or whichever low ranking team they played NOT on national television. It's not like he didn't know what the schedule was months in advance.

Pop had a real reason to rest his players they were at the end of a 6 game East coast road trip and having to play a back to back. He wanted to give his veterans a little bit extra rest. Doc Rivers rest his players all the time and never gets in trouble.

I don't think the Heat will get fined since they are saying Lebron and Wade are "injured." I fully expect them to play on Tuesday against the Knicks though

Wrong. The point of the NBA like any other business is to make money.

The point of Greg Popovich is to get his team ready for the post season no matter what the fans think and no matter if they're pleased or not.

**** joey crawford and david stern. That officiating was garbage and payback for the earlier game. Attrociously lopsided foul calls.

Spurs didn't help themselves with their defense tonight but that was horseshit on the officiating. Spurs got clobbered and couldn't get calls. Heat gets breathed on and it is a foul.
