That explains it. He's probably a really sharp guy that's in tune with the market that bases his decisions on experience instead of computer models.

Just noticed the profits for you is how they get paid part. That is false for most. Advisors either have a commission base or a fee base (can be a combo but for simplicity of this post let's just say either or). An advisor either gets paid when they sell you a product (life insurance for example) or execute a transaction (buying A class mutual fund shares for example) or they have a fee based relationship that is based on assets under management (AUM is the industry acronym).

FINRA does not permit an advisor to have an arrangement where the advisor gets a share of profits.

He has to be to sell financial products/manage assets. It is possible he is an independent agent on someone's platform. That's pretty common.

I bought in FNMA at $1.60 back in May, rode the bubble all the way above $5.00, and back down to $2.00 ish. I could have had a 200% return in two weeks if I hadn't waited too long. Still made money though.

I wanted to buy TSLA back when it was under $40, but I let my fiancee talk me out of it. "Why do you want to buy Tesla? They're at their 52-week high right now."

The year was 2000. I was all set to put a lot of money into YUM brands at about $12 per share. The ****er talked me into microsoft instead. I know I shouldn't have listened, but I did.

Would have made a ****ing killing. Instead I took a loss 7 years later.
