You see quite a few European jerseys though. Messi seems to be the clear favorite.
Maybe it's because there's a big international population here.

I'll say this though- you sometimes hear that kids play soccer here when they're young, but the best athletes go on to baseball or football. There's a lot of kids around here that I don't think are interested in other sports. They're soccer year round. Spring league, fall league and indoor leagues, plus specialized camps.
And some of these kids are really, really skilled. 9 year olds that can pick the top corner of the goal over the goalie, doing step overs, that scissors move, etc.
I'm no expert, I just see what I see at the games now, but I can't imagine the quality of youth soccer in the US was as good 20 years ago as it is now. So, I think it is on the rise as far as skilled players coming up.
Dallas isn't doing all that great in their market. Just one of those Hunt owned teams that do a "meh" job of making a game day that people want to be a part of. They have a real up and down team who is absolutely on the up right now.

The youth observation is a correct one. They are working harder to not only get kids to stick with soccer but finding talent and creating a vertical path for them through their academies.

So it sounds like the MLS = AA or AAA in baseball?

I used to say that, but I don't think it's that accurate, because they're not in MLS as a means to an end of moving up and they care about winning.

I think it's closer to mid market NCAA teams compared to BCS schools.

Dallas is doing better with fans this year...part of the deal is it is just so ****ing hot out there...there is usually string of games where FCD people are like omg **** this.

One of those games was when KC came to town. Graham Zusi basically lost out on a decent Goal of the Year bid because the video of him scoring showed so many empty seats they didnt wanna promote it. Heh.

Toronto plays indoors at times. Turf for the most part is frowned upon.

Yeah if you go to an FC Dallas game don't sit on the east side of the stadium, because even with the late start the sun shines right on those seats. The seats on the west side, facing east, are obviously more money, but I'd rather pay the extra than sit in 95 degree heat in direct sunlight.

Been a Bayern fan since 1990's, last year's loss against Chelsea was actually worse than the one vs MAN U in 1999.
My Direct tv level only recently added Fox Soccer Channel, which does not have Bundesliga but has had every UEFA Champions League at least since Round of 16. The first time I saw Bayern, I could not believe how many players I recognized from the World Cup as the stars of their national teams. And then the Dutch player Robin(sp.?) came off the bench, and I started laughing because they must have too many great players. Should be great semifinals and final.

Nah, it is an outdoor game...and a huge field.

Houston does pretty well they have a brand new stadium and the club is really well supported. However the stadium is designed in a way that makes it look on TV like there are less people than there are. It is hard to explain.

This is a few pictures from when I went down that way for the Houston\KC playoff game.

Barca plays good football without messi - Messi-dependency has been created in the last season or two, where he has taken over the attack. Not that this is a bad thing - but it doesnt let the other players fully show their skills either.

Think about this - their forwards are

David Villa (#13 on the all time top scorers for La Liga) and Alexis Sanchez (Chile NT)- two prolific goalscorers - that now have a lesser role (they have accepted it) because of Messi. A true 9 that never accepted his role and left Ibrahimovich.

Their Midfield consists of Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Busquets - All part of the World Cup (2010) and Euro (2012) Champion Spain.

While Messi is the glue that holds them together - and yes a Messi less team is not as good - Barca is still an amazing team without him.
