Problems connecting laptop to TV

I have an HP dv4 that I have previously connected to a mitsubishi big screen tv through HDMI cable. For whatever reason it is not working now and I just can't figure it out. The laptop sees 2 displays, but when I tell it to identify, it shows both 1 and 2 on my laptop monitor. The TV seems to realize something gets connected as it blinks black, the just goes back to the blue screen as if nothing is connected. Just wondering if anyone here has any ideas what could cause that.

Not sure, have you tried the function f8 or whatever your laptop button is that allows it to cycle through screens.

I have a similar problem, but mine's solely with the audio via HDMI. Can't get it to work.
