My brief take on the draft

My take on the draft: The Chiefs did not let the draft come to them, they went after the players they wanted.

Dee Ford - I like the player, I just felt like he was a reach for a position of need. But if we really were in love with him as a person/player, and really set on a passrusher, then the got what they needed.

Philip Gaines - Again, I really like the player. Tons of upside. Again, I feel like we reached for a guy we were targetting.

De'anthony Thomas - I see how he fits with Reid, but again, this pick seems like it was made a round early.

Aaron Murray - Great value. Love this pick.

Zach Fulton - Great pickup and a good scheme fit.

Duvernay-Tardif - Great value and hopefully he can come right in and make an impact.

Don't throw your shoulder out by patting yourself on the back too much ther crow.

Even sacofdumbshit has gotten more right than the Chiefs in the last 5 or 6 years.

That's kind of the point right, bud? People give far too much credit to what has been a poorly run franchise. Sac can do it. I can do it. You can do it. We can all project players within a relatively similar frame. Most of us can tell a turd from a stud if we've been looking for them long enough. I hate when people discredit opinions because, "oh we are lowly fans and we must bow to the KC Brass." Nah, **** that. I'm past that in my lifetime. I call a turd a ****ing turd when I think its a turd. I am patiently waiting a change for fortune under Dorsey, but there are more questions than answers at this point.

I also happened to play this game of football at a high level I won't disclose. I've also studied draftable players for the past 15 years, and many people that have known me quite some time respect my opinion on players.

People around here act as though the Chiefs and the GM of the Chiefs are the only people that know anything about how a college prospect might transition to pros. Well, those people get it wrong far more often than they get it right. In the end will I personally have a shred of an effect on whether or not the Kansas City Chiefs draft a particular player? No. Will the Chiefs get some picks right that I think they won't? Yes. But here is what I do know on my own personal level, I've gotten more players right than Kansas City has over the years.

If you want a testament to my past, ask Sfeich, he knows.

My assessment stands at this point. Ford was a huge reach. Gaines was a value. Thomas is a McCluster clone. Murray was a solid pick for a 5th rounder, and was a good pick given they need to unload Daniels soon. The Chiefs made solid picks at O-line for it being the 6th round and there is a good chance they could hit on one, but likely not both. If I had to pick the one, it'll be Duvernay-Tardif. Perhaps I'll be proven wrong on some of those assessments, and I'm okay with that. Studying humans is imperfect science. I remain extremely displeased that KC did not adequately address the receiver position in a draft loaded with receivers. Thomas is a gadget player and special teamer in my book, and KC does not have an adequate #2 receiver. A guy, even like Devin Street, would have been good value in round 4.

Might be cheaper than graduate school.

The odds of me being the next Howie Roseman ain't good.

Graduate school isn't all bad... I only have about $45K stuck in it.

Here's your course plan:

1. Mathematics: Take classes in Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Statistics, Advanced Statistics with Calculus.

2. Physical Education: Take classes in Kinesiology, Biomechanics, and Exercise Physiology

3. Play Football at a Competitive Level: For 11 years after high school.

4. Study Draft Prospects: For 15 consecutive years.

5. Learn This: Good Teams Draft BPA at a Position of Need Most of the Time.

You're all set.

You got to be ****ing kidding me with this shit.
You really think we should have taken a Right Guard with our first round pick...A RG with our first pick. A starter for the RG position can be had easily in the 3rd. It would be moronic to take a RG with our first.

Three teams took offensive guards in the first round of the draft last season.

Jon Cooper, drafted #7, broke his leg in the preseason and was placed on IR. He was the starter prior to the injury.

Chance Warmack, drafted #10, started 16 games.

Kyle Long, drafted #20, started 16 games.

Travis Frederick, drafted #31, started 16 games at center.

How many games do you think Dee Ford will start this next season?

So, getting a high level starter at a position, any position, isn't as important as a guy who's going to end up with most of his time on special teams?

Okay...

And we didn't take a starter at G with our third. We took a nickelback/special teams DB. We took a guard in the sixth who isn't going to see the light of day. Ever. And now we still have the same massive hole at OG that we did prior to the draft. So how are we a better team for this?

games started is really a good metric to use, isn't it? I mean, after all, we have voluntarily lined up to pay to see guys like damon huard, chris parker, jordan black, kendrick lewis and damion mcintosh start for us. yep. let's rely purely on games started as to how good a player is or how big an impact he makes on the team.
