Georgia plays "old man football"

Pretty good article about next week's game here in the AJC. Pretty bold thing to say, quoted the money shot here...

http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog...s-says-of-uga/

Quote:
Missouri does not enter the SEC shyly. Quite the opposite, based on comments by one player.

According to an article in the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune on Sunday, Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was asked after the Tigers’ 62-10 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday night if he watched the Georgia-Buffalo game on television earlier in the day.

“I watched the game. I turned it off, too,” Richardson was quoted as saying. “… It’s like watching Big Ten football. It’s old-man football.”

Then this: “If we execute, nobody in this league [the SEC] can touch us. Period.”

They won't, and can't. Not on offense, not under Pinkel.

You can't blame an offense for failing without giving a defense credit for succeeding.

UGA sucked for 2.5 quarters. I could say it was because Murray sucked, and he did, but there's a reason for that. All the adjustments the D was making, and the way they were playing affected him. Big time.

When Georgia finally figured Mizzou out they punched them in the mouth and kicked their ass all over the field. Mizzou didn't lose that game on their own mistakes, they got their asses kicked. It happens, welcome to the SEC.

And so you know, every team gets their ass kicked at some point in the season in the SEC. Every one except for the one that will win the national title each year.

I haven't said otherwise in this thread or any related thread. All I've said is that a singular player's efforts -- I'm speaking of Jarvis Jones here -- caused the score disparity in the 4th quarter. I disagree that it was a team-defensive effort that wore away at Missouri. That might have happened anyway had Jones not taken the game over, but we didn't get to see it last night.

UGA's offense had the lead before the defense totally shut Mizzou down. The game was close for 2.5 quarters, after that it was a complete domination. You can't say Jarvis Jones is the only reason the score went from 17-9 to 41-20.

It happens. Get over it. I've watched my team ranked #1 have Alabama come in and beat the shit of us, watched a horrendous Tennessee team beat the shit out of us, and watched us start 0-2 and end up in the SEC title game. (and get our ass kicked in the 2nd half and lose the same way you did yesterday)

The SEC is a different league than the Big 12. It's not about outscoring the other team, or out finessing them. It's about wearing them down, dismantling them, and then destroying them. It's a theme you'll see all season long.

I know all about the SEC, I live in SEC country, I watch all of the SEC games, and I am better at watching football than you are.

Georgia is better than Missouri and nearly every position on the field, and that was always most likely going to show in the final score. The only reason UGA was three touchdowns better last night was because of Jarvis Jones' playmaking ability. Yes, he pretty much is the only reason that the score got so out of hand. Not the only reason that UGA was able to stop Missouri's offense from doing much of anything, but the reason that the UGA lead increased to what it did. Which is all I've been saying, but you're being weirdly defensive for some reason.

You should really appreciate Jones this season. He's special. And me recognizing that a special player took over a game in a special way does not diminish the team effort of the team that player plays for.

At least both of these teams play football, which is more than I can say for my alma mater.

I was, fortunately, out in the woods camping instead of watching. I was able to listen to the game, but I'm glad I wasn't watching it. Regardless, it's an embarrassment. I don't care that we lost Tyler Wilson. Any SEC team, not to mention a team trying to throw their name in with the big dogs of the conference, should be able to line up against a team of ULM's caliber, block downfield, and turn their backs loose to grind out the game. Just really sad.

And I don't even want to talk about the defense.

Our program just stepped back about a decade with this debacle.

I call BS. Anybody's ballgame until stupid turnovers ensued. I just hate that everyone will see the final score and think it was an ass kickin. I really want them to do well in the SEC.

It was an ass kickin. You can't just erase the turnovers from the game to justify an ass kicking. I wish you could, maybe it would make me feel better about the Chiefs ass kicking today.

That's the nature of the beast. Every other game is like a bowl game this first year in the SEC. They are all out to teach Mizzou a lesson and put them in their place.

Mizzou will be fine, but it will take a little "Acclimation".

It's going to take a hail mary for that to not cripple their program any further in the future.

Watch the recruits they start landing, especially the defense. They'll be fine, and one day they'll be playing in Atlanta to win the SEC.

That's why I say to keep your head up. Everybody gets a good ass whipping or two each year in the SEC.
