The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively DONE

The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

Let me take thist thought a bit further if I may.

Considering the fact that there is a rookie pay scale in place and bad rookie contracts will no longer "kill" a team's salary cap can someone please explain the concept of a player being worthy of a draft position?

Just what happens if a player who is deemed not worthy of a draft postion is taken? Does the universe inplode? Is there some sort of mystical ritual that fails crops and poisons the water?

Please, someone explain the concept of worthy of the #1 pick to me cause it sounds like total BS to me.

I didn't like it when the Niners took Smith at #1. I didn't like the Russell pick to the Raiders. Bad things happen when you reach for a QB at #1. Does that mean he will be a bad player? No....not at all...I'd take him in round 1...just not first overall.
Show me where Alex Smith's college stats line up with Geno Smith. I'll be waiting.

The NFL is cyclical. Teams win oine way until defenses counter.

Passing offenses become huge so defenses counter with smaller, faster players.

How to you attack that? You run the ball. You deploy Multi-TE sets to overpower those defenses. Look at NE and those TEs.

The NFL isn't static. You can choose to try to do what everyone else does or you can try to find an edge and go against the grain. That's what the Niners have done. Thats what the Redskins did with RGIII. Thats what Seattle did.

There is more than one way to win.

If they have players on their board, in THIS draft, ahead of Geno, they're an idiot.

Kiper is an idiot. Mayock is an idiot. McShay is an idiot.

Every single one of these guys has at least one glaring weakness. Some of them have 2 or even THREE.

LISTERN HERE DONKEY ****ER. There has been maybe two. TWO cant miss players in the last 20 years. Manning and Luck. So **** me, we should go out and draft linemen every time till we trip on our dicks and luck into the next one?

Geno had bigger numbers than Alex did. No question. The TD-INT ratio tho is similar. The offensive systems were similar...tho Alex ran ALOT more. The YPA (yards per attempt) are actually BETTER for Alex.

I'm not saying he will be no better than Alex. He could come in and take the world by storm...who knows.

If KC thinks that he's worthy of a #1 pick...then they HAVE to make th pick. Their actions tho suggest they do not think he is worthy of that pick.

Alex Smith

In 2011, the 49ers did it WITH Alex Smith...but again, not advocating that.

Also remember.....Kaep was a second round pick and Wilson was a 3rd round pick.

And what actions would those be? Because up this point the only ACTIONS the Chiefs have taken is setting up meetings with these QB's, with more likely to follow.

Everything else is pure speculation.
