Zack Snyder to direct next Superman film

http://heatvision.hollywoodreporter....medium=twitter

Nolan and Zack Snyder, definitely an interesting team. There are already rumors now that Zod is going to be the villain.

I have to say I'm excited that it "appears" they aren't going to go totally out of left field and do something stupid and out of character for Superman.

But I'll see this movie, as I do most every superhero movie. Probably Sunday morning/early afternoon.
I liked on Smallville or whatever when Clark would get inflicted with Black Kryptonite? or something that would make him quasi evil. Instead of being the big emotional pussy that he is, he would just go party and bang whores.

just got back from it and it was just decent at best. Zod was kind of a little bitch in this film. Superman just basically toyed with him through out the entire film.

You only HAVE TO because we always have.

I have no issue with Clark Kent or his backstory. That stuff is great, and I hope MoS treats that material well. I just mean once he's Superman, why does he also have to be a regular dude? Why does he have to be a reporter who wears glasses?

In fact, why do we have to call him Superman? Can't he just be Clark Kent and fly around saving the world and whatnot?

The whole thing just feels silly anymore.

Just saw it. Meh. Dialogue and interaction between Supes and Lois is forced and rushed, especially when they randomly start making out. And the film goes from dealing with Zod directly to a smiley, happy Superman. WAT.

It's good, but has a lot more flaws than TDKR did. How is Lois falling out of the ship at light speed at the end as everything else goes toward it? Standing straight up in the middle of a tornado? WAT.

I loved Russell Crowe in his role.

Saw it tonight and loved it, lots of action. I think the part people didnt like was how it jumped back and forth thru time a lot. but to tell a story from when someones a baby til he's grown takes a lot of time, it was a good way of doing it imo. I think they did a good job balancing the whole movie.

have to remember though, barman begins wasnt fantastic. I would probably put it on par with this. now that the origin story is out of the way like the first barman I could see it getting better and better

IF YOU CLICK ON THE SPOILERS IT'S YOUR FAULT

I'm not going to compare this movie to any other superhero movie besides the previous Superman movies. Why? Because it's not TDK, it's not TDKR, it's not the Avengers, it is Man of Steel... and let me tell you this is not anything like any other Superman that you've seen before. It's not like the animated TV show, it's not like the 80's Superman movies, and it sure as hell isn't like Superman Returns.

First and foremost, I can see the complaints.

Starting with the flashbacks, the first thirty minutes after the Krypton opening is very back and forth. You only get a peek of him as a loner before you're wisked off to his childhood to see about ten minutes worth of footage, then you go back, and forth, and back, and forth, it breaks up the pace but it's not something that just ruins the movie and should be considered nothing more than a gripe.

The destruction at the end of the movie... yeah, it's constant and similar. I would've liked to see Zod and Superman just trade heavy hits instead of throwing each other through literally six or seven buildings over and over again. It does get monotonous.

Spoiler!

Zod was kind of a weak villain. He was all talk up until the final battle, they should've given some of Faora's lines and actions to Zod to make him more menacing. Diane Lane took a backseat to Kevin Costner, and Jenny was a throw away character. Lois was kinda dumb in the movie, and honestly as a Pulitzer Prize winning author she is allowed in too many military situations.

Spoiler!

The great things:

Russell Crowe
Henry Cavill
Faora
Kevin Costner

Spoiler!

Overall I'd give it an 8/10. Maybe I'll like it more the second time around, but for right now it was good, but not great.

I REALLY liked the movie, because it was the first Superman movie ever made that was both serious and watchable. The Superman Returns movie of several years was such an abortion that I wanted to hunt down the people who made it so I could beat the hell out them, and the Christopher Reeve movies just had too much idiotic farce in them. I mean, whose idea was it to have Gene Hackman play Lex Luthor as a comedic figure with a mumbling doofus named Otis as his henchman and with a stupid non-sexy "Miss Tessmacher" as his gun moll? Those were horrible movies.

THIS movie took the Superman character seriously. Some people have been complaining about the flashbacks, but I thought they were a very effective way to mix the backstory in with the events currently going on.

The only thing I didn't like was the excessive use of hand cameras. I know filmmakers have liked to do that to bring a sense of realism ever since the Cops TV show became popular, but I find it distracting and annoying. Also, the extreme closeups made Diane Lane look like an old hag. But I thought the storyline was great, and the special effects for the action scenes were excellent. I do wish they'd cast a hotter woman as Lois Lane, however.

Having said all that, I'll also say I plan to see it again. I think the comparison to Batman Begins is pretty accurate.

Was Zod this weak in the older Superman film? From what I remember he put up quite the fight against Superman in the Reeves' film.

In this one he really didnt pose much of a threat and wasn't that good of a fighter considering ol' man Russell Crowe handled him for the most part only to get a cheap shot in there from Zod.
