My Grandma, very religious, honest, and respected in the community talked of growing up on a farm in Nebraska that was haunted.

The horses would periodically break out of the corral and gallop around and around the house, one specific rocking chair would rock all by itself, and late one night their cat ventured upstairs into the attic where they heard a screech followed by a loud thud. They ran upstairs and she claimed it was evident the cat was thrown against the attic wall where it laid there dead in a heap.

I've lived in 2 different houses that were haunted. People that had lived in the houses prior also had experiences or refused to talk about it

eh, I've done the missouri state pen ghost tour/overnight thing. never saw a damned thing that couldn't be easily explained as a psychosomatic reaction to naturally creepy conditions.

I used to do quite a bit of the ghost hunting, overnight stuff. And always came away disappointed. Never saw, heard, or felt a damn thing that was unexplained. Even when told beforehand that I was guaranteed to have an "Experience"...

I have actually FELT things MANY times. Known something was there. No doubt in my mind.
But as far as physical manipulation or manifestation...I dont buy it....At All.

I'm of the belief (both as a skeptical molecular geneticist and as a lay person) that there are things we don't understand. is it possible that the things that are seen/felt/heard are ACTUALLY supernatural? I doubt it. is it possible that they're manifestations of some sort of energy that we don't know of? sure, why not? remember, einstein tells us that all matter is energy. when you die, it's possible that some imprint of you is left behind in the form of energy. will we figure it out soon? who the hell knows?

but the idea that people believe what they want to believe and see what they want to see is absolutely true from an evolutionary standpoint... read Michael Shermer's 'The Believing Brain.' it goes into great depth on the supernatural, facial recognition, pattern recognition, etc. in other words, MANY things that are complete nonsense/coincidence get interpreted as 'spooky' because we, evolutionarily, recognize certain patterns for our survival as a species. cool stuff.

Bigfoot, UFOs, fairies, angels, the Loch Ness monster, lizard people, sock gremlins, etc. You just won't believe it until you see it. But the human brain is really really terrible in regards to the accuracy of what people see. Eye witness accounts are the least reliable source possible. The brain is wired to see and quickly recognize the shapes of faces and human figures. It's an evolutionary defense mechanism for survival. People convince themselves that all sorts of silly shit is real. But yet we have absolutely zero credible evidence, despite the constant ongoing search for them. Cameras all over the world are recording right now, hoping to catch a spirit on tape. But yet nothing except stories of people getting scared in the dark, and attributing it to whatever supernatural buzzword that fancies them. Meh... show us some proof...

here's the thing about proof of that sort of thing... do you know how difficult it is to get scientific funding these days? DAMNED hard, right next to impossible in some cases. we'll put it this way with regard to the supernatural:

the first legit proof of the supernatural, verifiable and peer-reviewed, would net the finder the following:

1) nobel prize/huge scientific cred of some sort (this is huge, believe it or not)
2) funding for LIFE

that it HASN'T happened, to me, is evidence that we either don't have the tech for it yet or that it just isn't there (I'll accept either as viable possibilities)
