****Official UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman Thread****

Unfortunately, I won't be doing pbp (for the few that enjoy it). I think this is a decent card but only worth buying because of Anderson. If you can, check out Edwin Barboza on the prelims.

Yes and Yes.

I didn't see the first meeting between Sonnen and Silva but in the second meeting there was a point in the match where Silva was casually walking backwards across the ring with his arms down by his side not defending himself. The rest of the fight Sonnen was bullrushing him and the entire first round Silva was in guard.

You should probably go watch the Belfort fight again. Multiple times he had his arms down not defending himself because Belfort wasn't doing anything... The first punch Belfort threw came damn near 3 minutes into the round when Silva was dancing around with his hands down. The fight lasted 4 minutes, you can bet your ass he would have continued doing it.

He'll wait til he thinks he's seen your best and feels you cant touch him and gets cocky. It cost him this time.

EDIT: Watching a replay of their first meeting and by the 3:30 mark in the first round hes doing it. Hands down taking shots to the chin.

EDIT 2: Just finished watching the whole fight and a more appropriate question would be... Did you ever see Silva with the opportunity to do what he did with Weidman? He easily spent 95% of the fight on his back because Sonnen, a wrestler, had no interest in sitting back and going toe to toe with Silva.

No doubt.

Man, judging by comments on various sites, I can't believe the lack of credit that Weidman seems to generally get from people. The fight was not a fluke, Weidman was the better fighter. And Silva did not beat Silva, Weidman did...Silva did not help his own cause by any means, but Weidman was solid and will continue to be solid.

Hard not to be "solid" when the other guy is willingly letting you hit him and putting himself against the cage in the first round telling him to try again like its a sparring match.

I on the other hand find it hard to believe the amount of credit you are giving Weidman. The guy was scared to play his game and got a lucky flail shot to the chin of a cocky pos just standing there trying to be Neo.

Not sure on Hughes but Penn was washed up everyone knew it he also wasn't and elite fighter at the time. Same goes for Tito. He is was a shell of his former self. Due to injuries. This was the first time Silvalost in how long? Its not the same. Oh well. It is what it is. His interview after the fight he seemed to just be relieved he doesn't have to do it anymore. Never seen that .

Yup.

Congrats to Weidman but that fight isn't truly indicative of what likely happens. Still crazy to me that shot dropped him. That might be the true indicator that Anderson's time is up. Guy took flush shots from Hendo, Rivera, Franklin, and Chael that looked like they had much more explosion/power.

One theory is he is planning on swapping weights with Lyoto. Nothing credible about it though.

Silva seems to give odds in the cage depending on how he perceives the level of competition standing in front of him.

I think it was pretty obvious he had no respect for Weidman.

Due to the unpredictable nature of fights, that's just not a good plan for success.

If Silva doesn't do an immediate rematch, I wonder if we are seeing Vitor vs Weidman.

Agreed. He seems to go in thinking a guy can't beat him straight up, so he'll put himself at a disadvantage to level the playing field. At least that's how it comes across too me.

Pride before the fall...any "champion" who mocks his sport and opponent ends up like silva did last night...It's not a lucky punch when a guy is begging to be hit and thinks it's not legit...I still think most right handers have trouble with a solid left....

That wasn't even a solid left. Weidman was off balance rushing him and just stuck his arm out and caught him in the right spot.

pffft...I highly doubt Silva evers goes down by a guy who just sticks his arm out...and he wasn't rushing him..as you said S was playing Neo..W threw four punches and landed the left on the jaw..
