Mock (3/17/13)

Assumptions:

1. They get one compensatory pick, an extra third (Carr).

2. The Chiefs try furiously to trade down, but there are no takers.

On with the show:

1. OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

I have not the slightest idea why the Chiefs continue to gravitate towards drafting Joeckel. It doesn't make a lot of sense, as the team outwardly expresses a desire to keep Albert longterm at LT, and with the signing of Geoff Schwartz, the Chiefs now feature three potential right tackles in Schwartz, Donald Stephenson, and Jeff Allen.

3. OLB Trevardo Williams, Connecticut

An undersized passrushing machine. I love the guy, reminds me a lot of Dumervil.

3. TE Vance McDonald, Rice

Probably the most impressive physical specimen at tight end in this year's draft. Over 270 lbs, but ran a 4.7. He is a developmental project if there ever was one, but with Moeaki and Fasano taking all the TE reps, we can stick him out.

4. ILB A.J. Klein, Iowa State

A few of the other guys that would be available here aren't as athletic, and don't possess the fiery leadership of Klein.

5. OG/C David Quessenberry, San Jose State

Getting some support at center is not a bad thing -- neither is padding our offensive line with even more depth.

6. ILB Vince Williams, Florida State

A one-dimensional thumper who's clearly a two-down back.

7. ILB Kenny Cain, TCU

The Chiefs have zero athleticism at ILB other than Derrick Johnson. Cain is a bit undersized but he'd finally be solid depth at WILB. Cain's best work is in dropping into coverage -- if he lost about ten more pounds he'd be an interesting safety project.

Ellerbe was an undrafted free agent and I recall a few people stumping for him late and to sign as a UDFA.

The Bengals got a steal with Burfict.

What if one time, just one time the Chiefs decided not to furiously attempt to trade down.
