This really does drive me nuts. I just have a hard time imagining a kid that lives in Madison, Fayetteville, or Columbia, SC not going to the school in that town.

It happens. It's really all about the kid, how closely they're tied to the school, how much they like their hometown, etc.

There have been some noticeable Fayetteville/Little Rock misses for Arkansas. Altee Tenpenny. Michael Dyer. Not sure about Madison or Columbia.

With Ofodile, he likes Mizzou a lot but there apparently is some factor of wanting to get out of Columbia and get away for college.

Hentges has been impressed by OSU and Urban Meyer. Elite coach, elite school/blue blood.

Not excusing... just sharing some background on these guys.

In South Carolina they have a distinct line....you either go to Clemson or to South Carolina. But too many kids don't necessarily want to wear Orange uni's and play at a stadium that is in practically nowhere (Clemson) or go to a college with a Gamecock on their helmet (S.C.)

The crowds are rabid and the recruiting wars happen all the time. But some kids just like to leave and get away from Mom and Dad and all the hype to go to Clemson or SC.

The coaches didn't say anything to the girl. The coaches already had spoken to DGB and said if he gets charged, then he's done with football at MU. It's DGB who is filling the girl's ear w/ this info.

If I was the friend I would be pissed off. She says she loves her blah blah blah, but I can bet your DGB could do this shit 10x over again and she'd still say the same shit, begging her not to call the cops. The gf Bass, is sticking up for DGB, because she thinks she's going to ride the gravy train and get access to millions once he gets drafted.

She states that football is all he has...truth is it's probably all she has too. It's her door to millions of dollars and she doesn't want to see that door shut. Great friend huh? smh.

He can still be charged by the state is what I heard...if the prosecution wants to go through with it. But in order to do that, they need witnesses, and right now, not a whole lot of people are willing to talk.

Might not be the popular opinion, but I don't think he should ever get to step foot on our field again. Talent aside this kid is a ticking time bomb and letting him slide again sets a precedent that we don't need...especially with the bullshit that's been happening in our athletic department as of late.

That's her original statement in text, that the coaches told her about the ramifications for DGB's career. It's also a poorly worded text with bad syntax and several incomplete or missing words.

In her followup interview, she told the police she hadn't talked to the coaches, that DGB had relayed that information.

It wouldn't surprise me if she exaggerated a little bit in the text to make the friend think the g/f was on the friend's side, when she was really just trying to make sure DGB wasn't charged with assault...

But I don't think that excuses anything. If DGB is really dragging her around by the neck and hurting her, I hope:

1) She sticks with her pledge to get away from him
2) He gets booted by Pinkel and co.

Yep, at this point I would be relieved to see him gone. But I just can't see them booting him now, and they better not just let him come back with no explanation/apology/something to try to get the rational people back on the team's side.

If he makes a public statement/apology, goes to some form of counseling or something, and the team makes it known that his next incident is his last at Mizzou, I can probably be persuaded to come back.

But if they just try to sweep this under the rug and hope everyone forgets about it they can seriously **** off. I'm sick of Mizzou making the news for shit like this.

I guess one of the things that kills me about this is that I had this picture of DGB as a Oher type success story: kid rescued from bad situation and is now a super high character kid who is going to do great things and be a good example. He had his little brother and all of that heartwarming shit that seemed to make him an appealing personality and story. Looks like he was rescued from a bad situation only to put himself back into bad situations, repeatedly. Sad.

Darnell hasn't been a model student from what I've heard from certain non-sports connected people in the area.
