Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I've never bought a gun at a show for many of the reason you stress.I don't get it either but I do like to go and just look around.

Why does anyone buy a gun there? Their prices are down-right robbery, and most of the exhibitors aren't in the dealing mood. The only rational price I found there was a Sig 522 22L (I know, I know) for $450. The Desert Scout Recons I found were overpriced about $1200 and the barrels overpriced around 500-800. Ridiculous.

Now on to the fun factor. It was great! I got to handle a MP40 (German 9mm Machine Gun from WW2), a BAR, Buffalo Bill's rifle, saw a .308 minigun, an ORIGINAL GI night scope with power supply, and at least one hundred Garands.

They had enough AK-47 crap there to supply the Taliban, but hardly anyone carried Saiga .308 gear . I could only find a couple of used POSP scopes, which were priced as new.

There were 11tybillion AK and AR-15 tables, a ton of .50 BMG tables. The Armalite rep was awesome and very informative.

I will own a Desert Scout Recon with .338 and .308 barrels eventually, but it's looks like I will need to be a little more patient.

It was worth the jet fuel down and back even if I walked away empty handed. Internet and local dealers still own the gun market, and always will.
The last time I was down there I thought stuff was a bit pricey. Several years back before the prices for ammo skyrocketed a couple of buddies and I loaded up on ammo for everything we shoot as we found an ammo dealer that would deal if you bought anything in volume. It is a good show IMO for the collector looking for something hard to find. All kinds of stuff turns up down there that you may have trouble finding elsewhere if you have the time to look.

That's still robbery. Those can easily be had for $375.

Just got done shooting about 300 rounds today. It was perfect!

I managed a 2 1/2"-3" groups with my Saiga .308 and open sights from 100 yards.

1911 S &W shooting still needs work. 25 yards and I can only hit about 75% of our 9x9" targets.

The best part: Prairie Dog Field with .......... an AR 15 .223 with 24" barrel, Leupold 20x scope and a shitload of ammo.

It was one of the best hunts I have had. These dogs had balls, as soon as my dad or I dropped a couple they would all pop right back up. 200-300 yards of pure mammal explosions. I giggled like a little schoolgirl for 2 hours straight.

Your Avatar sums it up.

Very nice. I was tempted by that, but in the end decided I'd rather have the grip with the light control.

Yeah, I was thinking really about that combo too, but I'm just going to have to splurge on a standalone, side-mount light eventually (not for a while though). Why does everything gun-related have to be so freaking expensive?

I wish I knew....guess because they can. I was amazed at how much a simple bi-pod for my AR could be. I ended up going the cheap route, but could see a grip pod in my future.

I got the scope mounted on my 522, along with 1,500 rounds and a 50-Round drum mag. Now I need to find time to shoot. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.
